10/22 mag limit not understood by my son, he now wants a GSG STG 44

A few years ago I bought my son a 10/22 for when we go plinking. He loves it and have invested in improvements over the years. But after the RCMP and their attempt to make my son and I common criminals with their Keystone Cop ruling, I had to get rid of my son's 25 rounds magazines. He was very upset and I could not provide him with any rational reason for the RCMPs enforcement. He does not understand why my .22 CMMG mags are legal and his are now garbage.

Anyways guess the RCMP Jack Boot antics is just something law abiding taxpayers need to take, just like Dad lived thru in Nazi Germany (funny he said things would happen).....

While at the local shop my son handled a GSG STG 44 Schmeisser .22 LR and asked why it has 25 magazines I said who knows, he now wants one. I feel bad my son has lost his investment in his Ruger, so what kind of experiences have you 44 owners had? Will it be as good as my son's Ruger?

I love the STS-44 (.22lr), yes she is heavy, pistol grip is a tad large, shoots cheap Fredral Eagle ammo, but needs to be cleaned after every shoot. I picked up 3x extra mags for her and use 20 rounds per mag. I am also 6.2 so this firearm fits in my shoulder pretty good. I also keep her in stock with just a sling and no optic sights!
The only thing I would change is the plastic insert behind the Bolt to metal and get metal mags.
 
He is 15, around 5' 11" pretty beefy, shoots my AR, SKS. pretty good.

His 10/22 has Arch Angel stock kit, scope, rails, bipod, flash hider, so it's heavier than a 10/22 in stock form.

Maybe I should watch him shoulder one again.

Even better than the 10/22. The GSG Sturmgewehr 44 in .22 as a shooter is better that the 10/22. Extremely accurate up to at least 50 yrds (didn't shoot it yet at 100yrd). Very easy to field strip for cleaning, much easier than the 10/22. The only thing that might be negative for your son is the weight around 10lbs. The StG 44 is very heavy! It's a full metal carbine with some steel parts of exactly the same size as the real German StG 44 which it replicates. For a regular size man its heaviness is a plus because it makes it very stable during shooting and eliminates nearly completely any recoil which results in a superb accuracy. I'm not sure if it's that good for a young boy.
The StG 44 uses a 25rd magazine but it's a bit tricky to load. The mag follower must be pulled down only slightly and the mag must be loaded one by one round. If the follower is pulled down too much then there is too much space in the mag and the rounds may start tumbling.

P.S. I just noticed that your boy is 5' 11" which is a size of a grown up man. Shouldn't be a problem for him. Big boy!

Thanks, he is getting the better of me these days when doing the Dad son posturing thing. :) Wife's English side the guys are up to 6'6"....... My German side not so much. But I will get him to handle a 44 more as yous aid 10lbs is getting up there.

So you teach your kids not to debate what's told to them? Sorry not interested in raising sheep, especially after hearing what happened to my father during WW2, and when the people just handed over their freedoms a bit at a time...

Look at Australia and ask yourself if the Jack Boot thing is not happening there.....


Not interested in a bun fight here on how well the National Police Force is working, so please comment on the 44 and start another thread in support of the 10/22 ruling process.

10/22 owners are numerous and currently disgusted with the RCMP's garbage magazine ruling, can't say I blame them one bit.

If you haven't already donated to the CSSA's legal fund, please do so. Every bit helps! And even if we can't reverse the RCMP's ruling we give them a legal battle and make an account of ourselves.

I had to go through the same process as you did with my own son,although he is younger than yours, our 10/22's along with our BC steel lips 25rd'ers and loaders have given us many hours of enjoyment. One of his favorite things to do was make a tin can dance at about 20yds with a full 25rd'er.
It's tough enough to hold a youngsters attention and you have to really make shooting fun and interesting for them...I lost one of my methods.

I have explained to my boy best I can about the situation at hand and even involved him with the CSSA donation, as I stated earlier even if we can't win we at least fight.

When a brick(555's) of .22lr was under $15 I was happy to let my son blast away with a semi. I've since changed his tastes for shooting a "precision" single shot bolt:)

I agree 100%. How disappointing was that with the insert, eh? Everything else is fantastic - heavy-duty, metal parts. And then the insert comes out during cleaning. What the hell? lol. I am also 6'2". This gun just makes me grin. Indeed it's heavy, but I'm a big gorilla so it doesn't bother me any. I also have a Savage bolt-action with big-ass blind-guy scope on it for my precision plinking. I am certainly going to try this gun for grouse.

My only semi .22 is a STG and I love it. Don't even mind the weight. Wife shoots the 597 and shoots the 25 rounders. Either is a good choice. Granted, we're slowly running out of options....
 
We donated as well.

As some have said, we may not be able to convince the Government do the right thing for all responsible gunowners, but at very least it will demonstrate in a very public court of law, how the RCMP are not capable of making decisions of this nature.

I will like to to see how they prove that magazines patented and sold before the Charger release, were designed for the 10/22 rifle and Charger.................

Anyways can't fix stupid...................
