Finally got around to start my adventure into reloading. I went with a lee classic hand loader to start. I only plan on reloading 45-70 for right now anyway so I don't think I need a big $1500 rig yet. 45-70 not a caliber I go out and blast a thousand round anyway.
Anyway I ended up reloading 40 rounds, using .458 sierra jacketed bullets 300 gr. Hp/fn. federal primers, and the starting load of 42.9 grains of imr 4198. Went pretty smooth. Crushed a few cases trying to seat the bullet . Getting a good crimp was difficult, maybe I was doing it wrong.
Took some of those rounds out to give them a try. Pretty nerve-racking shooting the first one. But it went well. Recoil was pretty mild, maybe closer to a 30-30 for felt recoil. And I was able to pick off all the pop cans at 50 yards lol.
Pretty fun to reload and I'm saving some money to boot.
Next time I'd like to try to load up some 45-70 with goex, why? Because I want to lol. No real reason other then I think it would be sweet
