So i have a few boxes of the Hornady 55gr FMJ BT and was wondering is there a difference between them and the Campro? Obviously the Hornady are prb a bit better quality but more expensive. I am looking at the Hodgdon site and they don't list Varget as a powder for that projectile, but Campro does?
I am confused....
Sorry for the noob question btw

Actually campro is much more consistent with nose shape of their bullets than even hornady. I found that when comparing their lots. If I had to choose I would go with Campro

A friend of mine found up to a 2 grain inconsistency across the same pack of 75 grain amax bullets from hornady.
true story

I did grab 1K from XReload of the Campro but wondering if i can use the same load data for the Hornady? I only have 200 and will prb just stick with Campro for my AR reloads.

I would use the same load data for either Hornady or Campro 55 fmj. You may not get the same POI or accuracy due to slightly different bullet shapes but my guess is that they will perform similarly.

The only difference that I've found between them besides the 3X price difference is that the cannalure position is different. For the 2.250" COAL that I use, the Campro cannalure position is better.

Yeah I loaded some Hornadys and to crimp in cannelure you are pretty much at 2.20 which I guess is fine for an ar15?

Made up some dummy rounds and the 55gr Campro hit the lands at 2.278" in a Colt IUR but they don't fit in the magazines. But 2.250" fits, feeds reliably and is easy to remember.

What kind of accuracy are you getting out of the campros ? 1.5 moa is the best I can achieve with any consistency. Had a couple of just 1 moa groups. These would be 5 shot groups not 3 shot look at how great my rifle grouped 1 time.

I've used the 55fmj campro's in a savage axis of all things and without tailoring the load to the rifle, just made some rounds up ti make sure it went bang, and put three shots on a quarter at 100 yards.

They're ok for being cheap, but they've never made a real precise load for me. But that's what 69g hpbts are for.

I've had awesome results with Hornady 55gr about 1.5MOA but the Campro is closer to 2.5MOA no matter how much tweaking I do to the load
Awesome for threegun or plinking but not really that accurate, or atleast that I have found. Only nice thing is Campro are quite a bit cheaper

Agreed with the early posts. The Campros I got are more consistent in weight than the Hornady FMJs. I was surprised to be getting 1MOA out of my 16" DD barrel with my usual 25gr Varget plinking load.

I get about 1 to 1.5 MOA as well using the Campros. This is fine for my use which is more CQB/practice and the affordable cost is appreciated.

For 30cal 150gr FMJ's I have yet to find a better bullet then the bulk Hornadys.
For 223 55gr I got into the bulk SP at $15/100. In my 222 with 24g varget it's one ragged hole.
I have Campro's but they are meh, so they get loaded with cheap ball powder and plankt.

The Campro 55's are actually very well made. I prefer them over the Hornady's for two reasons, obviously the cost is about half but also the cannelure postion. The Hornady bullet is designed to be loaded at a 2.200" col where the Campro is designed to be loaded at a 2.250" col, this lets you load them slightly hotter than the Hornady's without increasing the pressure. I stick to ball powder for these, its kind of counter productive IMO to buy cheap bullets and waste money on expensive extruded powder and expecting sub MOA accuracy. In my test's the accuracy of the Campro is nearly as good as the Hornady, especially if you take your time tailoring a load to your rifle. It's hard to beat for a cheap plinking round, best of all they're made in Canada!

I also hear there is a 62gr .224 FMJ in the works, they should shoot a little better in tighter twist barrels!
