Car struck by bullet on the 401!

I find it strange how people react to a no-injury firearm accident, but do not react at all to the familiar fatal vehicle crashes that happen every day. I am not making excuses for careless firearm use, but wonder about the tone of the article. Seems like they'd prefer no firearms allowed anywhere near where there may be a vehicle driving. When, in fact, driving or riding in a vehicle is more dangerous than engaging in the shooting sports. Look up the statistics.

What statistics? I would love to see a statistic that specifically laid out how many deaths were caused by shooting-sports related incidents. Of course, you could always calculate your own statistics. For instance, wikipedia lists Canada with a 1.97 deaths per 100 000 people due to firearms, but the VAST majority of those are homicide or suicide. Only 0.07 deaths/100 000 people are accidental or undertermined, Which equals about 24.5 people per year in the whole country of 35mil people. Meanwhile, in 2014 1834 people died in car accidents.... So by those two metrics, you are 75 times more likely to die in a car accident then from shooting sports. Hell, even if you include suicide and homicide numbers, you are still looking at only 700 deaths per year in Canada from firearms as a whole.

Sadly, the risk of driving is outweighed by the usefulness of being able to drive a damn car. That same sentiment is not shared by nearly enough people in regards to firearms.

you are completely correct. look at the number of skidoo and climbing accidents that happen in the rockies each year. if there were that many people killed in firearms accidents each year in the rockies, the antis and politicians would be having parades to show how dangerous firearms are and would be calling for a complete ban on all firearms. however, because it is a skidoo or climbing accident, people see that as being 'normal' except if you are the dead person or a member of their family....
