What statistics? I would love to see a statistic that specifically laid out how many deaths were caused by shooting-sports related incidents. Of course, you could always calculate your own statistics. For instance, wikipedia lists Canada with a 1.97 deaths per 100 000 people due to firearms, but the VAST majority of those are homicide or suicide. Only 0.07 deaths/100 000 people are accidental or undertermined, Which equals about 24.5 people per year in the whole country of 35mil people. Meanwhile, in 2014 1834 people died in car accidents.... So by those two metrics, you are 75 times more likely to die in a car accident then from shooting sports. Hell, even if you include suicide and homicide numbers, you are still looking at only 700 deaths per year in Canada from firearms as a whole.
Sadly, the risk of driving is outweighed by the usefulness of being able to drive a damn car. That same sentiment is not shared by nearly enough people in regards to firearms.
