At 5W TX, my brother in law and I tested them crystal clear at 47km on high ground with stock antennas, in UHF, lol. Haven't tried any further than that though...

The easiest way to program the radios is using free software such as Chirp and a USB cable that you can purchase. http://chirp.danplanet.com/projects/chirp/wiki/Home
