I don't usually post about this kind of stuff but.... I am genuinely frustrated now. I purchased a used mk 4 3.5-10x40 for my savage le2b with mcmillan a5 stock and a aftermarket barrel from mystic precision. Anyway the scope seemed ok, the elevation turret is mushy feeling but I can work with it. I mean I have handled barska scopes with better feeling turrets. So last summer I finally had some time to setup the rifle, noticed at ranges of 300-500 yards it would consistently print to the left. I usualy level the gun and then level the scope to the cross hairs. So I throw a level on the receiver and the turret, ok not level. the reticle is canted if I do level it that way. after a few months I box it up, send it to korth. Got it back last week after 5 weeks away and it says no defects found, ok but the reticle is now allot more square to the turrets now in my opinion(I could be crazzy??) Now wile bore sighting it yesterday what do I see.... water spots and two black flecks that apear to be on the same plane as the reticle..... JESUS!

Now I just want to be rid of the thing, I should have gone with the 34mm tube bushnell. I think I am just going to smash the leupold with a hammer and be done with it, instead of wasting more time on it.

I had problems with there being debris in my leupolds too. I took it to a dealer and showed it to them and they saw it. Also pulled about 10 other Leupold scopes off the shelf and they all had debris in the scope just like you describe (black flecks). I sent my scope off to Korth to repair and it came back slightly better but not 100% fixed. I'll never buy another Leupold simply because of the run around I got from Korth and the fact that all the "new" scopes I looked at in store have the same problem.

Sell it, buy a schmidt and bender and be happy!

If he's looking for tunneling in a $3500+ optic, then ya maybe he'll be happy. Nowadays there are a ton of great optics that rival and surpass the mighty S&B PMII. Kahles, Nightforce ATACR, Vortex Razor Gen II and AMG to name a couple. All have their positive and slightly negative features but it's tough to go wrong with any of them.

Don't smash it, I'm fine with water spots and a fleck or two, I'll even send you a vx1 in trade so you can still smash a leupold scope to get the poison out :)

Only the 5-25 tunnels (at low mag) S&B has many models in the PMII lineup. The 5-20x50 ultrashort is the best offering from S&B these days imho.

That sucks. I went from Leupy to SIGHTRON a few years ago. Better quality. Better built. Better glass.

Personally, I don't even look at them any more. Their QC has slipped in my opinion, and their features, and clarity are now challenged by Vortex.

Competition improves the breed as they say, and Leupold rested on their laurels too long.

The Vari-x iii long range with the 30mm tube black ring and m1 turrets is a great scope, picked up mine for 350 at a gunshow. "Supposedly this model later became the MK4. But anyways just saying, they aren't all bad, or at least they weren't years ago.

My point was to sell it and buy something better suited for him. Doesn't have to be a S&B. It can be anything that will make him happy.

I have an MK4, I have also had a nighforce. I bought both to compare to see if the cost over the nightforce was worth it. It was not and I sold it. I doubt it is flawed to the point that is cannot be morally sold. Mine is perfect.
