Toz T03-12

Funny but true. This whole ammo testing experiment was CAUSED by an Ammo Snob. Turning their nose up at AE ammo, saying what crap it was etc. So once all the testing was done, a bet was made, and AE won the day. And I was several dollars richer!

So with the cash what is a real shooter to do? Well, buy more AMMO of course, and since i have the chrono, and the guns, I took it as a sign from on high, called up a buddy, and went to the range with a bunch of high dollar ammo and some more humble ''crap''

For the record, I love CCI, but if memory serves, I got a bad batch? SD was awful as I recall, and so were the groupings. Much worse than I had ever had with the ammo before so I discarded their results.

The rest, as they say is history.

Got juice could you post results of your test please?
I tested some AE this spring and I feel the consistantcy is not what it used to be.
This was the 40 round box

the 40 round boxes were garbage, the 50 round box was the bomb

The accuracy claims for AE 40 grain round nose high velocity ammo are unanticipated. How did the accuracy of the AE change from 50 yards to 100?

And on a different but related note, GJ says AE standard deviation was "less than 19 fps", while the top shelf ammo SD was 7-9 fps. The SD for AE wouldn't seem to auger well for long distance accuracy compared ammo with a more consistent MV. What standard deviation can be considered very good for rimfire ammo? What SD is the minimum for accuracy at 50 or 100 yards?

Accuracy at 50 was very good for AE compared to others. At 100m the AE is outclassed by the high dollar ammunition, but not by the margin some think.

I encourage rimfire shooters to try all ammunition in their guns. And not get stuck on conventional wisdom. Good solid ammo that allows for good accuracy and lots of trigger time will beat a shooter with better ammunition and gear that can't afford to shoot as much.

AE40 mightwork better in some guns than others. I have 1 handgun that hates it. The other 14 like it. Headspace issue i think.

Where AE falls down is in their coating, bullet construction (density) and heel crimp. This adversely affects both mv and ballistics

But it is def not 'junk' and quite competetive.

My best advice is to buy a brick and try it out :). If you do not like the results it is only 37/brick :)

Guys, some neat info about testing ammo but one page was devoted to the OP's question and so far 2 pages devoted to ammo selection/testing. In the spirit of kindness to the OP, perhaps another thread should have been started. I know threads go off topic but maybe it can get back on topic. Which I will try and do. I have a TO3-12 with target sights. It's a very nice rifle and so far very reliable. I only shoot bulk ammo cause I am cheap but I still have fun and the gun has functioned fine.

How does the rifle shoot? I am on the edge of my seat. There is something about the vintage rimfires. I know all the new stuff and their 'whiz bang' technology are great, but these old soldiers can still muster up a damn fine group!

So, if you can post a couple groups, that would really make my day :)

I will see if I can take it out this weekend if its not to cold
