Folks I'm not a genius. The plans are somewhere in cyber land. When I get off my phone and on a laptop I'll send out ty he plans. Not interested in selling them, although I may make the odd one for people I like.

These things are not hard to make. Others have made these with nothing more than a drill press and a dremel tool.

You can too.
 
When I built mine there were a # of different plans shown in a "Castboolits" forum on G C's, probably still there.

I have cut Alum and copper (.010 thickness, material from metal Supermarket ) GC's as well as cardboard/paper lube cookie over-powder wads for BP cartridge's.
 
I think they are about $300 cdn now with the exchange, maybe more.

I have time, I don't have money.

Its also one step closer to being self sufficient. Few years ago when the hoarding happened in the states gas checks were hard to come by.
 
In all honesty when I made mine I thought they were the best thing since sliced bread, as Yo has said I was self sufficient and could check plain based boolits...I didn't have to buy G C shanked molds.

Then, shortly after I built mine I was introduced to Powder Coating and for me that has, for the most part eliminated G C usage no matter what type of base the boolit has. My check maker is basically a "card wad cutter" now
 
I have tried four different bullet configurations in one gun, first with traditionally lubed & GC'd for a baseline, then the following... PC before seating GC...seat GC after PC... GC based boolit but only PC'd with no GC applied.

Every PC boolit performed better than the baseline rounds, (2-2.5 groups with baseline and down to 1-1.5 for PC), I could see no appreciable advantage to GC or non GC as long as they were PC,d.

The test gun was a scope mounted 94 win in 30-30 with a 170 gr gas check shanked boolit from a Lyman mold using coww lead (no tin or antimony added) sized to .311. GC's used were traditional Hornady thick copper, not the alum. can ones.

If your doing it to just see if you can do it yourself more power to you. But Charlie does make a good system. One pull of press one check. I did have to make a system for the maker to sit well with the press but not difficult with a drill and time. My thought is if you are already casting and reloading this is just another part of the hobby.

CHarley is great to deal with, he made me a check maker 0.314" diameter for 303. It works great along with the 0.458" and the 0.310" and the 0.225""

Break even on cost of a Freechex III is about 2200 checks in 30 cal, about 1500 in 45 cal. Bulk aluminum coil stock is available at Home hardware and other stores. Get yourself a good micrometer and carry it with you when you buy coil stock.
the wrong gauge can leave you with a check too small (diameter) , or a check that is too thick
