Rust or... something else?

I got my first pistol yesterday A Norinco NZ85B, took it home, took it apart and cleaned it.

I used Frog lube Solvent first, then wiped it down with Frog lube CLP. (It was covered in grease when I started)

Today, when I went to gander upon its beauty, I noticed that it had brown streaks and patches on certain areas and I'm not sure if it's rust. It's weird, if I look at it under normal light it looks black and fine like the first few pictures, but when I shine a stronger light on it brown patches show up like the last few pictures.

Not sure that looks like rust...not great quality pics...but that's some rough ar*^d machining and finishing...I'm guessing that's a Cz clone....np?

Should have read the first bit before commenting...norcs are famous for sharp unfinished edges...almost looks bubba'd.

Doubt that it is rust/corrosion. Just how the finish turned out. Clean and lube, don't worry about it.

It is hard to be sure just from photos but based on other Norincos I have seen,
I would say that it is not rust.
It appears to be blemishes in the blueing finish . Norincos get a pretty quick job in the
finish department and don't get a blue finish like more expensive guns.
Shoot it, clean it, lube it & enjoy it.

You are referring to the fire control group parts in the aluminum frame? Could just be bluing on heat treated steel.

To me it almost looks like old dried up/baked on grease or oil? Have you tried using some alcohol or non-chlorinated solvent and a good rub to clean everything up then re-oil?

The bluing process is a specialized and controlled form of rusting. More than one blued gun I've gotten needed a LOT of pretty heavy cleaning before it stopped making the rags come away with some black and brown coloring which meant that the blued layer was finally "stable". It seems that if the hot bluing salts are not cleaned away really well it does seem to result in some brownish marks like you've found. I've seen a few traces of that on some blued guns.

I guess the other thing is that if you are SURE the brownish streaks were not there the day before then you may have a couple of things at work here. First off is you didn't use the Froglube correctly. Or it may be that how you stored the gun overnight was highly conducive to forming the rust. How was it stored and in what sort of material?

Frog lube does not mix with petroleum based oils.
That gun is new a coated with the Chinese crap oil they put on for storage.
Give the gun a good cleaning with a real solvent and relube.

Non-Chlorinated brake cleaner or mineral spirits will clean that pistol up nicely.

I don't want to start a « what is the best product » thread here but I often find that a few cleans and lubes with ballistol does miracles.

my np 40 (cz 85 clone) looked like that when I got it......in fact even after numerous cleaning sessions ...if I look closely there are still sections like that...I don't think it is rust.....just a bad finish as the colour doesn't spread or anything if I neglect it

good gun btw

This.
You need to get all oils etc off the gun before using Frog lube
