OK, guys and gals. I need some help here. Next Wednesday, Ize goin' out ta git me a hawg - wild hawg that is. Now, Ize a fan of lever guns. 2 years ago, I used a Marlin 1895 with LeverEvolution ammo. It worked wonderfully. Now this year, I don't know what to do - I'm down to a choice between 3: my 1895 with 405 gr. soft cast HP or 350 gr. JRN, my Rossi 92 in 44 Mag with 250 gr. soft cast RN or 240 gr. JHP, or my 12 ga. Lever with slugs. What a dilemma!

Whatever you shoot well at your own risk. :p

Apparently wounded hogs can be vindictive. Check out this video (action starts at 2:05)

Not that worried. No matter what I'm using, it ain't Godzilla. Not many critter will walk away from almost an ounce of lead in the boiler room. If they decide to get serious, a couple 405 gr. slugs or half a dozen 250 grainers will tranquilize them.

never hunted in a park but boar can be very nice to your legs if cornered ...
i hunted them with 300 win, 300 wea, 7x64, 9.3x62 in the wild from stalking to driven and i liked very much the 9.3x62 ....

If 45-70 405-500 grain cast is not an option, I myself would lean towards a 12 gauge with some kind of rifle type sights/slugs.

Definitely get in some range time prior to with practice at; 20-25, 50, 75 and possibly 100 yards to know your slug drop at varying distances.

And bring along a laser rangefinder.

If you have to use a half dozen rounds to end the wild boar encounter, you are either a. Shooting at too big an animal from the get go with too small a cartridge or b. Taking some poorly chosen & placed shots.

Rifle, shotgun or bow, choose the tool with the best capability and plan/try hard for a single shot, and clean harvest.

my 2 bits

Of the 3, I picked the 44mag as it offers the best of both worlds. The recoil is probably the least "felt recoil" of the 3 listed, and that means quicker followup up shots when they trail along in single file. Plus your sight picture is less disturbed. I'd mount a red dot and let her rip!!!!
