Has anybody bought one of the new weatherby vanguard true north editions from wss sports yet? http://www.wholesalesports.com/store/wsoo/en/Categories/Hunting/Firearms/Bolt-Action-Rifles/Weatherby-Vanguard-True-North/p/85944B I was dead set on getting a browning x-bolt white gold until I came across this. Has anyone bought or handled one? Looks like a well made gun for a great price.

It is just a Vanguard II dressed up a little different - so same barrel, same action etc etc.

VGII's are solid rifles and guaranteed to shoot sub-moa out of the box. At their price point they are pretty tough to beat. I own four - I'm a fan - but also have a Browning, a couple of Savages etc - I'm an "equal opportunity" shooter :)

The thing is they don't shoot sub-MOA with premium ammo.
Mine has been at the "service" location for 8 weeks now for this very reason (and an awful bore by my borescope). No feedback to date!.

Must have been a bad day at the factory. I have two Vanguard 2s: The .257 Mag best three shot group measured .331" and the 30-06 group was .54" at 100yds laser measured. Unfortunately with the .257 it is good for coyotes up to deer and the 30-06 takes over and is more than enough for elk and moose. Can't think of a good excuse to buy another in a different caliber.

lucky you!

I would disagree...I think you were very unlucky. Before I purchased the Vanguard 2 rifles, I had a Vanguard 1 in .257 Mag and it too shot 1/2 " groups at 100 yds. Upgraded to the V2 because the synthetic stock on the V1 made it ugly in my eyes. But it still shot fine groups and functioned perfectly. Hope you have a good outcome and receive a more representative Weatherby than the one you returned.

well, I sent my rifle in for service 4 months ago
when I get it back I'll let you if I was unlucky or you were lucky.

I must admit I would be pretty disappointed too at the manufacturer's response. Hope you have followed up and asked for a replacement or a refund. Been lucky, (as you surmised), in that I have not had to request any warranty work. Maybe they had to send it back Asia to have the barrel redone....
