I have a L61R Finnbear Deluxe 7mm Rem Mag that is in need of a re-bluing like the factory did.Previous owner did not care for it cosmetically but the bore is great and it shoots 1/2 " groups with loads it likes.Anybody know a shop to recommend restoring the luster? It is the two front lug model likely 1972 vintage....wood is about 90% so I'll leave it alone..recoil pad slightly dried out but serviceable...Harold

If you're not fussy about the place in terms of distance there's a place called Langille's Gunsmithing in Sunnybrae NS that does good work. Can't imagine it's super pricey given the state of the East Coast economy.

Not looking to be cheap .....just decent work at a reasonable price with a proven track record ........will see what they have to say.

I'd like to recommend my friend in Three Hills Alberta.Beautiful hot salts blue.
His name is Chris Griesbach and my last contact number doesn't work now
but you'll be happy with his bluing.

Depending on how much work needs to be done it varies. Basic blast and blue he's charged me $150. High polish blue $250 usually.

That's on the cheap side... with all the blue able metal in an older Sako... Many years ago $300+ was not uncommon for a nice high polish blue on Sako's and similar rifles if they were not rust pitted - just worn...

Bassman.
No its Don Thompson in Holden AB.
I don't know if he is looking for more work. He attended gunsmithing school in Colorado Trinidad I believe and does good work. He also blues stainless.

Yeah, I don't find his prices bad, he only blues a few times a year though, it's fast if you get in on a batch he has ready to go, slow if your the first one on the list lol.
This was a blast and blue which had some decent putting on the barrel, he did a good job for $150.

He also did a wire brush n blue job on a S&L .22 for me....Can't remember why he did it that way, it had blems but no pitting. Turned out in between the blast/polish...semi polish and not as harsh matte as the blast I guess is the best way to describe it. Turned out quite nice.

I've heard his name mentioned a few times before, always in a positive way. Must do pretty decent work.

Resurrecting an old thread. Does Jason have an email address? Suppose I can call him tomorrow, just prefer email for quotes etc. I have a Sako L61R that has a little wear on the barrel. No pitting at all and most of it looks great. Just looks like the barrel was rubbed too much or something and I'd like to have it all blued again.

cheers,
