Back to working on my Colt retro build....

I've always thought about using that norinco cq or whatever Chinese AR without the shell defector to make a poor mans vietnam era clone. I'd put on some of those repro 60,s M16/Ar handguard and buttstock/grip then maybe duracoat the rcvr in a matte grey?

I wish Nodak had an export permit... :(

Well, we CAN get them now, they just need to have stuff in stock....and there is a bit of a premium to get it here. Although when you compare it to prices on the ee it might not be too bad. I'm going to look into getting in on the next batch if I can (my XM clone is now reduced to nothing but an upper).

I would be interested in getting a Nodak lower as well, but the question would be the preferred method of getting them imported into Canada. It would beat my other option right now, to disassemble a complete SP-1 just for the lower to complete my retro build as well.

Or find a suitable lower which is attainable here in Canada...?

Easiest for sure, if they have some available. Aren't they a pretty hot commodity? I was under the impression they are small batches, NDS was showing out of stock last I checked.

I would have just left the lower on it. If you do a GAU 5/A clone then all bets are off as to the proper config as the US Air Force rebuilt them in pretty much any combo imaginable and they did have 601 lowers.

Guys have reworked A2 lowers into partial fence, mostly with dremel and files. A ton of work and I'm not sure I'd have the stones to do it. I you aren't already in Arfcom I'd suggest you join and check out the retro forum.

As I mentioned a 601 style pivot pin can be made and counter irung the upper isn't really necessary if you ensure that the detent faces down where there is already space for it in the upper lug.

Replace M4 lock ring as mentioned
You could replace receiver extension for two position but it's not like you can tell
Griffin Comp or just go with an A1 flashider for a real bastard. There are photos of them in use this way. After all they used thes well into the 90s at least.
A1 grips are easy to find

I suppose I should try and contact them to see if it is at all possible to jump onto their next production run, or find out when it is at least and try and coordinate something with IRG.

I'm not too concerned about down to the last pin details, just looking to do a reasonable facsimile. I needed to rob the lower for my SP1/20" project so the need for a replacement lower is now more pressing.

We are currently about 8 months behind. It will probably increase due to the delay we are having getting more forgings from Anchor Harvey.

I put in several PO's in Aug/Sept and they have been pushed back because one of their presses are down.

This is a low volume, high man-hour product to process. The gray anodizing is a PITA to do on 7075. Everything has to be hand polished to get the anodizing to turn out decent.

This is the most boring 15 minutes on youtube.

So, how do we get our names on the list, and how do we get them imported up here.....hmmmm?

Just received these in the mail today...a little closer.

Bought mine like this 20 plus years ago.

Seems to be in the Model 609 / XM177E1 config?

Sold my other flat tops, as for some reason the lighness and handling of the configuration just drew me back, love the skinny handguards and metal buttstock.

I do love the tactic cool stuff but something about it in water and not worrying about batteries made me that much happier.

Yours looks great, just need a 20 round style magazine and a sling, I have a aftermarket sling, as mine do not have one.

Also have a Chinese clone Colt Scope, years ago I was offered 500.00 for the \colt scope and as I prefer irons I sold it. Some regrets for doing that but I did buy a bunch ammo when it was way cheaper in GI OD webbing, with stripper clips, and cardboard.

2 position metal stock, tear drop FA, 6 hole handguards.

I've got a few 5/20 mags now, was thinking about getting some of the DA mags from CanAm too.

SSG69, is that an original stock/2 position tube or repro?

BTW, I sure appreciate all the input from everyone. Its making this a fun project and I'm learning new things every day.

It's a Colt, from a C-8. So kind of both. They were throwing them away at work when I got it. It works form me. It meets the criteria and the resemblance is the same as the originals.
