approx cost to install tapped scope mount to sks

I have been eyeing up the scoped SKS on westrifles site for a few days now but it is a bit pricey. I already have 3 SKS so buying a 4th might be :HFU:excessive. What would be the approx cost if I were to leave one of my rifles with a gunsmith with the mount to get it applied to one of my rifles. Thus I would only need a mount/scope/rings. I kind of like the look of this rifle, reminds me of the cool SKS rifle they used in the latest Mad Max movie.
 
Probably about $50-100 labor + parts.

If your current rifles are one of the much nicer examples of an Sks with all matching parts, and no bbq paint I would say keep those original and do it to either another rifle or buy the one from WestRifle that's already done.
 
I'm not much a machinist nor do I know one unfortunately. One bonus of the side mounted fixed mount is that cleaning will be easier for corrosive ammunition. The top mounted rails fixed through the former rear iron sights will require a re-zero post take-down. I ran into this issue with a repro scope mount that I put on a SVT-40 of mine. It holds zero well but cleaning is a royal B preventing me from using anything but factory ammunition and a bore snake for now. By the time I have the correct tools etc I may as well pay a gun smith to apply the mount on a SKS. Hoping to have a fun range and good little deer rifle out of it.
 
Ok scratch that, I just bought the SKS with installed mount and Pilad scope from Westrifle. Visa loves me:HFU:
will probably put one of my laminates up on EE as this brings me up to 4 SKS, probably just make a consolidated at soon for a mauser/sks/hex 91/30
 
The Gunsmith I deal with charges $20 per hole he needs to drill and tap. His rate is $100 per hour, charges by the quarter hour, and turn around time is about 1 week. Your looking at about 45 - 60 minutes in labor.

Good decision, given what I see in the pictures though, id figure out a way to lower the optic a fair amount, the current sight over bore looks ridiculous.
 
Apparently those rings are adjustable. Will have to see when I get it. Factoring in labour the price on this rifle was reasonable. Just hoping the rifle shoots strait. I ordered another crate of ammo from Cabela's there boxing day sale has started $259.99 for 1500rds chinese seemed pretty good. Plus went with store pick up, will have a coupon for $20 off when spending $150 or more Jan 4 to Feb 17th. Wonder what if anything will be marked down then to make it worthwhile. If not i will post the code here like I did before so someone can use it. I'm still on the fence about ordering a two man hawk trees stand though it will probably c9me on sale again in the summer.

I would have did it yourself its super easy. Only used benchvise and cordless drill and cheap tap and die set, to install my $60 promag side mount.
Works awesome and can still use stripper clips and easy to remove rear cover and bolt for cleaning.
 
In hindsight should have done it myself. I recieved the rifle from Westrifle and it was a gorgeous unissued 1954. However the tap work was terrible. When I removed the mount for inspection the holes did not line up well and it could not be put back on. I inquired about this with the dealer who told me I had voided any warranty and that I was SOL. I also found that the mount was not well alighned and if the scope was mounted it would be off kilter a few degrees.
Thanks to a neighbor who is a millwright I was able to re-tap the holes for the mount and got it to work. Then used my amateur blacksmithing skills to reshape the mount to be level. Now after some home work the mount and scope will sit flush and we'll on the rifle. I expected alot more professional style work for the price and knowing what I do now would have just tapped one of my existing SKS rifles myself.
