Maybe the Practical Precision Competition forum would have been a better spot for this.

In another thread I was looking for an IOTA. I found another product that is identical called the DFAT that Tracer Hit Light (they sell strobe lights that go off when targets are hit) ships to Canada.

So that's on the way and I found a PowerPoint presentation on 6.5 Guys that is really good. It has a small match simulation and a few other neat things.

While I really like the presentation I am wondering how hard it would be to make more? I know nothing about PowerPoint. What I am looking for specifically is:

-the ability to calibrate the scale to my laptop screen size and IOTA focus distance so say a half mil target 400 meter is actually a half mil and a mover is actually movong at the right speed.

-more PRS style match simulation with stages starting and ending with a shot timer

-different real life shooting range backdrops available so actual matches can be simulated

-moving coyote hunting presentation where you have to estimate range (by milling) and target speed and then you can find out what the distance and speed should have been and see how accurate you were

Has anyone made PowerPoint presentations like this? Can you even scale PowerPoint (as in show at 80 or 90% scale)? I think you if you could sell them some how they would be popular.

Okay so a little update now that I have my DFAT amd tried it and the PowerPoint that is available online.

It is PLENTY challenging and useful without need a bunch of extras. I feel a bit foolish thinking I knew how to reinvent the wheel.

Also the Dryfire Adaptive Trainer or DFAT from Tracer Hit Light works great. I looked all over for an online store that sold an IOTA type product and they were they only one that were ready to ship one.

I just ordered an IOTA direct, paid by Western Union. The DFAT is a lot cheaper, but doesn't appear to have a lens like the IOTA, which also has a sterling reputation on Snipers Hide..... Would be curious to hear how you like it.

As for PowerPoint, depending on your version it is very possible to set up animations and so forth to achieve what you want. Timing tools are built into the program, so you could easily have a page pop up and be replaced after 90 seconds for example.

Scaling everything perfectly will be tricky - each laptop/screen is a different size and resolution. PowerPoint is not set up for pixel accurate sizing of items on a specific screen, so you're going to have to do some trial and error to get things just so. Any distance variation from the screen is likely to induce some errors in your sizing - a 2" error on a 11' distance is 1.5%. I would suggest your best bet is to set up the laptop as you intend to use it and then use your reticle to size various rectangles on a PowerPoint slide and figure out what scales to 1 MRAD at your selected distance. Then you get to do a lot of math to figure targets.

Good luck!

The DFAT has a lens. I'm sure the IOTA is great too but I had a lot of trouble ordering one from the US.

So far I really like it and would highly recommend it.
I know I could figure out target size and relative range but I'm lazy lol.

Ordered an IOTA in about 6 months ago or so, paid by Western Union, and all went very smoothly. (Confession: haven't had a chance to try it out yet, due to lack of time/other commitments... sigh.)

I'm sure they work great but I told to wait while the IOTA seller setup (FRAUD ALERT) and I never heard back.

The DFAT I added to my shopping cart, paid for with a credit card, and had it in a few days.

I have to admit I was a bit nervous at the time about essentially sending cash to a "joe somebody" in another country (but it did work out ok). If I had spotted the DFAT option at the time, I would likely have chosen the same option you did.
