Going to be buying a 1963 700 bdl carbine. 6mm. It's in pretty decent shape. Anyone own one or have any experience with one? I do know it's flippen loud!
Merry Christmas
Rob.

After the war Remington came out with the 720 series rifles, with the much heralded enclosed cartridge head on the bolt, later called a push feed.
I think it was about 1960, they changed to the Model 700 series, maintaining the same bolt configuration as the earlier species. The barrels of the Model 700s were 20 inches long.
Sales hit the sink, and about 1966, they changed the barrel length to 22 inches for common calibres.
So there is a sketch of the history of the rifle you are about to buy.

Date code puts it Dec 1963. Rifling looks crisp. I agreed to buy it. Couldn't say no to the price. If nothing else I got a donor I can part out.

In the 700 the twist was always 1in9. The 244 never chambered in the 700. It was actually quietly changed in the 722 while still being called 244Rem. With only less than 1200 made that first year of the 6mmRem, consider selling it rather than dismantling for other uses.

I am also a fan of those early 20 inch barreled model 700 rifles.
Have a BDL in .222 Remington Magnum and an ADL in .243......Still looking for more.

Hey guys... finally bought a scope for this old fella. I've decided to keep it. Upon scoping it, I noticed that I'm 99% positive that MAG. has been stamped out by the factory.
I'm planning on shooting it tomorrow and I'll report back how it does.

Advertisement from 1963. Only $129.95. :)

(barrel lengths start at 22" as stated).

You're as bad as I am, owning a rifle for several years and never firing it..........I thought that was exclusively my trait...................OK it's only since last Christmas, about 3 months +........I have several that are years old and have never been shot.

Got her roughed in at 80 yards. Too wet to put target out much farther without getting boots to weigh 80 lbs a piece.... shoots decent enough so far. I'll wring her out further as weather improves.
