Quintessential Handguns

Everyone should have a Glock 17. They aren't even my favourite but they are extremely reliable, simple to use, reasonably priced, and last forever. Plus new shooters always want to know if you have a Glock.

1911 45ACP - A classic everyone should own.
Browning Medalist - Beautiful and accurate .22LR.
Colt Python - Excellent quality, accurate and beautiful.

I have owned the Glock G17, G22 and G20 never had any reliability issues period and I did reload for all of them. I have also owned the S&W MP9 and MP45, again never had any reliability issues.

When it comes to polymer guns I have had the best luck with Grand Power pistols (have owned 4 GP's). For me they have been the most accurate "plastic" framed handgun, next were the S&W MP's then the Glocks. I was never able to master a Glock for accuracy.

For revolvers I loved my S&W 627 Performance Center 5" 38spl/.357mag.

For 1911 pistols I have owned a new Cold Delta Elite 10mm and a Colt Gold Cup Trophy .45acp.

There's not many guns I wouldn't own lol, I love'em all !

Oh yes I forgot about my CZ SP01 Shadow 9mm and the CZ .22 conversion kit I had with it. Very good gun.

Glock 17 for the 9mm
1911 for the .45 acp
Smith 586 ( I prefer blued steel) for the .357 magnum
If I am allowed a 4th one as there should be a .22lr: it would be a Smith 41

CZ Shadow in any flavor, Glock 17, good quality 1911 (Ed Brown for me), p08 Luger, Smith & Wesson 627, trr8, 629, and .460xvr.

Good thread. I think it starts with your interest or collecting philosophy. e.g. classic military collectors (e.g 1911s, Lugers, High Powers etc), samples of the current benchmarks in the major calibres (e.g 1911, Glocks, CZs, Smith or Ruger 357s, etc), rarer or unique collectables (e.g sig p210, X-Series, Pythons, Manurhins, older HKs like the P7 and P9). For me it is a bit of everything.

Sig Sauer P226/225/229 (one of each if possible but any one will do)
1911
Glock 17/22/19 (again, any will do)
S&W 586/686 (either or both)
S&W Model 29
Single Action Army (Colt if you can afford it, obviously)

I'd get a different hobby if all I could shoot was a glock, but that's just me. HK 45, HK P7, 1911, 624 44 special snub, Beretta 92fs (I have big hands and this gun shoots like a dream for me). Oh and my Walther PP in .380

Any revolver is essential in any collection, imho. Yeah, they're a bit more of a pain to clean up compared to a semi, but they're just so much fun, especially for the reloader (zero-recoil-loads up to fireworks-loads and everything in between).
