10/22 what parts to upgrade first?

Hey just picked one up. Stainless one. Looking to see what parts to upgrade first. Heard Kidd bolt buffer is a great upgrade for cheap. Really looking for a better trigger upgrade and how the bolt locks I don't like. What have you guys done?

Upgrade to a marlin or a Winchester LOL

There are more accurate 22s out there for sure
A 10/22 will always have it's time and place, i never had less than 1 10/22 in my safe

Initiating a new shooter, shooting reactive targets, a 10/22 will do that very well, bone stock like decked out

I take a little chainsaw file and do the bolt release mod as seen on youtube, and bed the stock with epoxy etc. But most importantly I get that trigger pull down from 7 lbs to 3 lbs. My 9 year old daughter, who is a gopher's worst nightmare, didn't want to shoot the new 16" purple laminate 10/22 I bought her. She liked my elderly piece with the 3 lb trigger instead if the scratchy 7 lbs from the factory. Also to note: Barrel length, 16" is considerably louder than 18", so I can't imagine what 12" sounds like. If you're out listening for gopher squeaks for 13 hours on a hot day, wearing muffs can get cumbersome.

Auto bolt release. Then trigger. Then a Dlask barrel maybe. Then pretty much everything until you end up with a gun where the only factory part is the action...

I worked on mine myself. They're cheap and it's good practice :) really good write up in the rimfire section. If you're not very good on the tools there's a place down in Washington that does a really good job for cheap. You just mail it down there and they send it back all tuned up.

I just did the auto bolt release and the bolt buffer myself. Looking for a good video or info/instructions on a trigger job :) do many differnt ones

There is a really good write up in the rimfire section, posted as a sticky. Check it out!

Are you comfortable dissassembling trigger group?
Polish to a mirror (1000grit on a hard surface and do not change angles, finish off with cotton dremel tip with polishing compound) all the parts interacting with each other. ie; sear to hammer, disconector to sear, etc... all action parts that friction together be polished.
Then use this link to change engagement angle on your hammer.

Match trigger for free if you're handy!

Hey! Just a wanted to say thanks.

Had some time today to kill so pulled out the 10/22 and went to work. Polished everything up, and carefully followed the instructions for trimming the hammer. Took the trigger down from 7.5 pounds to 7.0 pounds lol. But I kept watching videos and tweaking the hammer and sear, and eventually got it to 3.7 pounds. (After at least 15 tries).

It was interesting, untouched, the trigger pull varied by more than a pound. Sometimes releasing at 6.5 pounds, and sometimes releasing at over 8 pounds. I think the culprit for that was the little spring and plunger behind the trigger... had some burs on it and was probably catching a bit and randomly adding to the trigger pull. Anyway, now the trigger pull only varies by about .2 at most. Very pleased.

I did the auto bolt release while I was at it. Didn't really mind it the old way, but this is nicer.

Everything runs smooth as glass now. Thanks to you and the gang for your help!

Cheers,

KJ
