where are guys getting sks now?

All of my Russian SKSs have come from Lever Arms. They recently had a sale on, $200 a pop, but the price is back up to $229. If you are in the Vancouver area, you should check out their selection of SKS and SVT-40s.

Tradeexcanada.com sells good stuff. If I didn't have 4 Mosins and SKS already I might have ordered their super deal. Wonder about the condition of the arms.... probably miss match at those prices but still a good price. SKS russian market send to be on the rise and Chinese which once held more value may see those rifles drop in price.

Around 2005 got a couple of Yugo 59 from Marstar for 329.00 a crack ( bought 2), they are prized SKS, everytime one show up on the EE, they sell for super marked up prices... In the world of investment these Yugo sure got up there, keeping mines for posterity... JP.:)

The Yugo and Chinese got way overpriced imho. Wouldnt be surprised to see the Chinese drop even more, at least in terms of supply.....although the C$ might be a big factor. Some people are calling for .65 cents. Ughhhhh

Corrosive is cheaper in price, but corrosive primers... So you have to clean your rifle out very well to avoid rust. Preferably first with hot soapy water to wash the salts away.

oh so its just the primers that are corrosive and its not a big deal unless you don't clean your gun afterwards

the chinese are devaluing their currency intentionally so i can't see us going to .65 cents having a huge impact of gun prices. I'm thinking a bigger factor will be demand from people trying to get guns before that marking law goes in

Back when I had one I just took it apart and ran boiling water through the barrel and gas block. Everything gas touched got a boiling water treatment.

Im not so sure. The Finn M39, Mosin snipers and other guns have brought top dollar here, whether "defaced" or not. Personally I'm with you......I hate it.

Exactly, I've left my rifle for 2-3 days after shooting corrosive and it's a bit of a b**** to clean compared to doing it the same night as when you go shooting. Not a big deal if you do it the same day, like I said... Hot soapy water on everything, let dry, followed by regular cleaning and oiling and your good. It takes me 5 minutes longer of work to clean my Sks after shooting corrosive as it does when I shoot non corrosive.

You can find crates of surplus ammo that's corrosive for about 15-20 cents a round, and non corrosive is around double the price.

When using corrosive, I try to clean on the same evening as the shooting day.
That said, not always possible. I have sprayed rifles liberally with some rust corrosion sprays, and several days later, no signs of corrosion/rust, as the oil film locks out humidity. I left one SKS for 6 days after spraying, and it came out spotless, as if I had cleaned it right after shooting. Guess it may depend on where you live and relative humidity also.

Got my last one at Fishing World. Nice selection, and they actually let you handle them. Better or worse? Russian with excellent bore or Chinese with excellent bore shoot the same in my experience. I prefer the '52 to '54 Russians with chrome lined bores... they also seem to be better finished than the later 1955+ rifles. My rare non-refurbished 1953 Izhevsk was beautifully finished (regrettably sold it), but my current 1952 Tula which is essentially brand new (only dropped into a laminate stock) has equally nice bluing. My best shooter was a minty 1949 refurb with a somewhat worn crown and fairly smooth rifling near the muzzle! I was getting sub-1inch to 1.25inch groups at 25 meters. Go figure. My "coolest" SKS was a 1953 Izhevsk refurb with the serial number "OP8". I just bought its older brother "OP1196". :)
