Has anyone tried a "scout" type scope set-up on a Vz58?

I've done the side mount... didn't like it. Couldn't find a quality short eye relief compact scope that doesn't require a deflector. Also I'm not a fan of the PSO scopes on a Vz58... It's not an AK no matter what stock you put on it :p Don't want the rail that goes over the receiver because it removes the rear sight (functional and accessible iron sights are my personal doctrine)

I'm thinking of a Burris 2.75x20 Scout mounted on a NEA upper hand guard rail and barrel clamp rail to keep it as low as possible. Yes, I know the rails have to be level and I have a solution to do so.

The scope will be too long. I want the eye piece right against the sight block, not over it.

Who said anything about RDS? Jerk :p

I like the RDS on the NEA hand guard... but I mount it right against the rear sight.
 
Have your tried a railed dust cover? I have the primary arms 4x 7.62 x39 scope and couldn't be happier. No need for a shell deflector. I have spent many years and toooooo much money trying to put optics on my vz's. This is the best choice I think. Your vz will get front heavy putting a scout scope on it me thinks.
 
For me when I had my scope there was no way I could mount in anywhere up front on the VZ58, Way to much eye relief. I tried with my FAB handgaurd rail and it was awfull....

My Leopold was almost perfect mounted on the rear side mount for eye relief, Like you said tho brass hits it. So I burlap wrapped it.

Only reason I took it off was because I ran outta adjustment....


Kwik or magwedge make a rail you you prob have better luck with, I was never able to get one unfortunately. At this point I gave up and got used to the irons.
 
I know you don't wana remove your rear sight but these are prob your best option.... Atlest your scope stays put on one whole rail and not sectioned into 2.

Thought of a railed cover... scope length is a problem and shells hitting it.

I'm buying a scout style scope for my SBL so I thought I would try it out on the Vz to see if it's worth it. All together the Burris will add a 1/2 lbs to the front and that doesn't count for rings. I'm also running a Zhukov which allready adds some weight to the front.

This is a test mule for the concept one of my Vz58s. Still have to align the rails and torque it up. Doesn't feel too front heavy and it does have a great cheek weld. Only complaint are the steel Warne rings. Good quality rings... but they are a bit heavier than I desire. Still looking for lighter ones. Leupolds are heavier and the Burris Zee rings are not 'tough' enough for my liking.

So far I like it. Only concern is barrel whip stress on the scope.

Still some more fitting to be done. I've been "swiss cheesing" everything to reduce the weight...
