Just wondering if a 9mm hunting rifle exists? I'm itching for a more entertaining gopher gun as I reload 9mm for about the same price as 22lr. I would have expected at least a single shot of some sort to exist but can't seem to find something in 9mm that's not a black semi auto carbine.

Chiappa m1-9 comes to mind. No idea how they handle/perform however.

From what I've seen in reviews they are of questionable design and function.

Thin on the ground. There are conversions: ht tp://www.specialinterestarms.com/index.php?page=novem
38 special is a kind of 9mm :).

Sooo....if it comes with a built in noise reduction feature...it's legal right??!! :d

Marlin Camp 9.

I would be all over this if they were still readily available.

Since 9mm parabellum means "prepare for war", I'm guessing it was not conceived as a pure hunting round.
So probably explains why there are more black tactical looking guns designed for the round than traditional looking hunting rifles.

The Marlin Camp Gun is closest to what you want, I guess.

You can get an all-white Kriss Vector Gen II Carbine and call it a day :)

As noted above, you can also find a nice lever gun chambered in 357 and shoot 38 Special out of it... really the rimmed equivalent to 9mm (kinda).

Ruger used to make a nice 9mm carbine, but I think it was restricted here in Canada,,,what else is new around here.

That's why when the Chiappa M1 9mm came out ,I snapped it up.It works well for me for what it is ,and pretty reliable.

Too bad about the Ruger, it was a nice little rifle. The Mini-14 would be a nice platform for 9mm, but it would never happen. Like the 6.8 SPC version it did not last long for several reasons I won t get into.

What are your impressions of the Chiappa? From reviews both here on cgn and across the internet it got ragged on pretty hard.

i hate mine, never even shot it.
plastic, bulky, i hated it right away.
bought online like an idiot when they first came out.
lesson learned.
will sell it one day when i get around to it.

nothing comes to mind for you.
just get a black rifle. they are fun.
csx storm is solid.

Well, it's black and futuristic looking but the Beretta CX4 fits your bill perfectly. They are very accurate, non restricted and easy to mount optics on. Once you get used to the trigger you will be shooting your quarry at 100+ meters no problem. I've seen hundreds of brand new shooters hit 6" gongs at 100m with red dot sights. A little scope would be even more precise.

I just don t have a big problem with it ,I knew what is was when I bought it ,so expectations were not crushed like some people.

Hey some people just get their hopes set too high, some people expect too much, some people bit%$ without first hand knowledge ,some people give their opinions and that's what they are , opinions. Some people just get a POS. LOL

There was a thread listing the top 5 (or whatever) firearms ,and it was total nonsense and biased.Mention Mini-14s and opinions and you will get the haters ,mention SKSs, Mossberg ,Savage, Norinco.....same type of crowd.

If I refused to buy a firearm because of biased reviews and word of mouth anti (insert maker) I doubt I would have any guns at all.

Yes its a Chiappa, yah its got some plastic bits (trigger guard and fake bayonet holder...that's it) yes its a little rough.....but its a Chiappa ,what did you expect for the cash.... LOL

It goes bang pretty much all the time, 9mm is cheap to shoot and I also have several 9mm pistols and revolver that eat the stuff up.

I certainly would not use it for hunting, except maybe a dirty old Squirrel or rabbit.

Appreciate the input and suggestions from everyone and the thoughts on the Chiappa offering.

You can reload 9mm for the cost of .22?

Powder coated Cast Bullets and range brass. The primer is the most expensive part of the load. Followed by powder then lead. Figure $0.10-0.12 per given lead prices nowadays. I should add that I can do 45 colt for similar...but I don't have access to a Dillon like I do for 9x19mm.

One word....... "why"....... there are so many better cartridges for hunting.........

See above. ;) (slightly more fun than 22lr)
