1911 45 what would you buy

Ok finally got out last week and gave it a run through.
First impression I like it. shoots well and fed everything I put through it.
Fits nice in my hand and can get a good grip. I also brought my G21 sf out. Although the Ruger shot nice and felt great I still prefer my Glock.
Not sure at this point if it's a keeper. I think I now know I am not a 1911 style guy.

That's always disappointing, but it happens. I was so, sooooo excited when I got my HK USP. Shot it once, and was like "Nope" and now it's up for sale, lol.

Dang, I'd probably have made that deal with you. Of course, mine's in 9mm, so you might not have wanted it anyways.

I wasn't thinking about a trade when the USP deal came up. But I was curious about the newer HKs so I agreed to it. Haven't owned a HK since I sold my P7.
I didn't care about the caliber. It was more the actual gun I was interested in. So, yeah, 9mm wasn't a deal breaker!

I did that deal with stilalive...felt exactly the same as rkm456...just didn't fit me....and that was a very nice shooting 1911...thanks again..

So lets get back on track... 1911 in .45 :yingyang:

I see alot of replies of people who suggest the Sig Sauer 1911's.

I had one a few years ago. It was a TacOps.
It was not a bad shooter but the slide to frame fit was really not that good.
Maybe I had bad luck and it was a lemon but I would be hesitating to buy an another one.

I really liked that Nitron finish tho !

Any idea how early a model it was? I had heard some of their earlier offerings had some issues but that they'd sorted things out in recent years.

Had 2 xo's to try them out....didn't keep either in the end...I just think others make a better 1911's..sig do however make fine pistols..

owned hk45 and g34 but my heart aches for 1911 - eyeing SA 1911

So much excellent advice in this thread. Here are my findings from yesterday.

Yesterday I went into my lgs to look for a 1911. I handled a commander kimber, para expert, Remington commander, Remington R1 stainless and a Remington r1 enhanced and a few Norinco. The Kimberly had the loosest frame to slide fit. The Remington and Para pistols were pretty good. 2 of the 3 norincos I handled had terrible fit on the frame and slide and barrel lock up. The third was terrific. Tighter fit than any of the others. I had gone in willing to spend up to around $1200. In that range I have been looking at Colts, Springfield, and a few STI guns but my local store didn't carry those. And since I love to tinker and change parts around and customize that one tight fitting norinco was the right choice for me. I don't care about resale value in the slightest. I will be stripping it. Changing parts and cerakoting it to my liking. I could never bare to do that to a colt or Springfield.

Norcs are fun to start with and play Dr. Frankengun too.
i know i have at least 3 Norc 1911's that i do unthinkable stuff too..... but all in the name of science so its ok!

in fact now that i think about it i have a 4th Norc 1911 - its the one i converted into a 460Rowland.

im baffled that the loosest gun you played with was the Kimber.
mind blown!

every Kimber ive played with has been tight tight TIGHT!

Well I would like to restate that previous statement. The Kimber was the loosest of the "name brand" guns I handled. Which was 3 different remingtons and a para expert. One of the norc commanders was terrible. I could put my finger in the bored and rock the slide around. Another norc I could wiggle around more than I thought was acceptable and I found 1 full length norc sport that was excellent. I don't mean to state the kimber was bad. Just that it had more perceived play in it than the Remington and Para guns. I don't think it would have been at all indicative of kimbers quality overall. I am sure that the kimber reputation is well deserved. I wish they had a few other models in that price range for me to play around with.

I have a colt combat commander and a Kimber grand raptor 2. 2 tone. Love them both, but I agree the colt stock everything from the late 70's is my fave
