I am having an issue with a benelli mr1 that i purchased today used from a retailer. After i got it home i decided to strip it and give it a good cleaning. After cleaning the barrel i noticed it was pretty rough. At first i thought it was still dirty and after that i thought it was copper fouled. Im worried the barrel is screwed. I tried to get a good picture of it. Im hoping this is just copper fouling as i really like the rifle and other than the barrel it is like new.

Well thats good to hear. It just buggs me that i spent so much and the bore looks like crap. I was expecting a nice shiny bore. It is worse in front of the chamber by the gas port. Im going to see if i send it back as i wont be able to shoot it for atleast 3 weeks maybe more and im worried that if it is done ill be screwed and out 1700

Ok so i got some sweets 7.62 copper cleaner in hopes of cleaning the barrel out as i thought it was copper fouling. So one last question, are mr1 barrels normaly this rough? If they are ill just keep it and not worry about it as im set on an mr1.

Might just be fouled still, or maybe she saw some corrosion at some point in its life... like everybody else has been saying, see how it prints on paper! if it prints good, then the barrel is good.

Thanks. Ill try it out and see. Maybe it will smooth out with some rounds. Im just freaking out as they said i have 7 days to bring it back and my next day off is in 8 days so it doesnt leave me with any time to shoot it

It's a chrome lined barrel so while it could be rust, it's unlikely. Are the patches coming out clean? Use Barnes CR-10 or Ammonia for removing copper fouling, you should have blue on your patches if it's copper. Be careful to keep it away from other parts of the gun though.

They are coming out pretty clean. When i switched to sweets they were coming out deep blue and after a few applications are coming out fairly clean. Ill try again in a bit. I didnt see any cr10 when i was looking for cleaners today. Sweets does have ammonia in it and have read good reviews on it for copper. Ive been following the directions on the sweets and just using patches. Should i be scrubing it aswell? I do have a couple nylon brushes

Use your nylon brushes for carbon removal, kroil, amsoil carb cleaner, and g96 works well for carbon. Then use sweets or cr 10 or wipeout for copper. Repeat until clean. Then shoot. Your pics make it look like the rifle has a piss pore bore lol, doesn't mean it won't shoot well. Use a good bore guide and a good one piece rod, don't drag the rod across the crown/muzzle , I put the barrel near a wall so when the rod releases or pops out it hits the wall just before the end of brush clears the muzzle.

Yeah im going to take it back. I didnt get a sweet deal on it as i only saved about 300 over buying new. Adding gas into it to go to edmonton and back twice i didnt save much at all. I did manage to get the fouling out at the muzzle though but it hasnt changed at the chamber and the patches are coming out cleaner than i have ever gotten with any of my guns. Almost completely white.

When the seller told you it's used, did he say how many rounds had been fired by this rifle?
