So I have a cooey/sears/winchester .22 lr. All it says on the entire firearm is RANGER .22 CAL S L LR. I believe it's a model 82 but I want to know what this thing actually is. The bolt from my cooey model 39 fits better into my 82 but I'd still like to find a bolt for this thing and maybe try to re blue it. Right now I don't like letting people know I own something this poorly kept haha(it was free and was worse at the time I received it. I'll post a few pics in a little bit, the site allow me to post them from my phone

The Cooey 60 or Ranger is a tube fed repeater.

Model 82 is a full wood trainer single shot.

For pictures, you have to host them somewhere else like Photobucket, and then link to them.

Lol I tried using the pic uploading system again and couldn't get it to work for me. Anyways it's a model 82 by design but under who was it licensed. I gotta get the pics on here so folks can see what it is

The "Ranger" was a house branded Cooey made by Cooey for Eatons department store post WWII. Before that they were branded "Eatonia". There are some marked simply Ranger.22Cal that are the pre War transition from the Eatonia rifles for Eatons. They made "Rangers" for Eatons which were the same as the Cooey Model 39,75 and 60. They didn't have the Cooey name on them or place of manufacture stamps. Post War it would just have "Ranger" and the .22 s,l,lr stamps to save on cost. Cooey made various house branded models for different stores such as the sure Shot for Sears, the "Hawkeye" for Northern Hardware of Edmonton, The "Hiawatha" for Macleods LTD, "Mercury" for the Woodwards Stores, "Rabbit" for J.H.Ashdown, "Sniper" for the Marshal Wells Hardware Company and some others. But need to see pics to know which model it would be.

I have a single shot Ranger which is the Model 75. It has Mossberg front and rear receiver aperture sight on it. It will cut a single ragged hole at 50 yds and can easily snipe gophers at 100yds the way it is set up.It shoots beautifully and I refinished it last winter as the previous owner had carved his name into the stock, painted the barrel black and the stock had a biohazard symbol painted on the side. I had to save it, it is now one of my favorite rifles. Here are some pics:

i hate to bring this up but when you serve someone absolutely EVERYTHING they need in one simple concise post you need to end it with *mic drop*.
its just internet etiquette.

nicely done on that fact info by the way, you went totally old school librarian on that.

Bahahaha nice. By the way thanks for the info guys I'm pretty sure I found the info I wanted. One last thing though, is it normal for the barrel to be up off the stock maybe the thickness of a bill at the fore end

They normally touch unless the stock has pullled down a bit with age depending on the grain. Or somebody sanded the barrel channel to free float it. They used the inexpensive B grade walnut a lot of the time with some sap wood such as shows in mine above. That said shoot it the way it is and you can also try a shim up front touching and see if that affects it's accuracy positively or negatively. If the shim helps you can bed the channel with epoxy to get it to support the barrel if needed.
