I was just cleaning my MK25, and I noticed that the serial number on the inside of my slide does not match the frame... Is this normal? I bought it new a year ago from a dealer, but just noticed this now.

Hmmm... I have never owned a P226 (miraculously)... but I have also never had a pistol where the slide and frame were mismatched. And you buying new from a dealer makes that all the more weird.

Maybe it is a Sig thing... but I doubt it

Yes it caught me off guard I had to triple check. Very weird.

my frame is 1048xx and my slide is 1023xx. Any other MK25 owners have this mismatch on theirs?

I once owned a Glock 17 which I purchased brand new from a dealer with a mismatch slide and barrel number. It was off by one digit.

Did the dealer warn you about the mismatch?

Edit: Would an average sized Canadian dealer even be aware if some new stock pistols have a mismatch? If so, should a dealer let the customer know?

Does this matter? Isn't the frame the tracked part?
For example, you can buy Sig slides/barrels in different calibers that fit the same frame.

I just checked my 226 Mke 25 I bought new. The number on the inside of the slide is different than the serial number of the gun. I am quite certain it is not nor was ever meant to relate to the serial number of the gun. The sequence of numbers is not the same either. I am quite sure you can sleep easy. My Sig was made in the US and the US does not require the serial number to be engraved on the barrel, slid and frame like some European countries do eg. Czech Republic

Take Care

I'm not so worried about the legalities...yes I believe in Canada, the only tracked part is the frame. From what I researched, Sig does not serialize the barrel when manufactured in the US, since like in Canada, the serialized frame is the only requirement. But they do serialized the slide. The gun also shoots well, so no complaints there.

Just figured new pistol=matching parts...

Thanks for checking yours out too Bob. This is really interesting. From what I researched, folks on the US forms report matching numbers on their frame and slide. My serial numbers look like they were about 2000 or so numbers off. On other pistols I own, everything matches...I'm not too worried, although some sig forms call non-matching pistols "frankensigs" lol.

I should call up Sig Sauer to see what's up..

Call Sig. They are very helpful. I had a mk25 and had only received 2 mags from the retailer. I called Sig, told them the serial number and they confirmed that my mk25 was shipped with 2 and a coupon for a free third mag (there was a temporary mag shortage). Somewhere down the pipe, that coupon was removed. Sig offered to ship me the third mag.

I have also heard of some "irregularities" involving frames not matching slides. There have been accusations that the frames were swapped by some unscrupulous retailers put normal 226 frames (without the phosphate internals) with the mk25 slides (with anchor). These retailers were then thought to sell the frames at a premium. This was mostly conjecture. My mk25 matched. Call Sig and ease your mind.

I just called Sig. At first the representative said that was very odd, and the slide could have been switched out after testing.

However after a quick serial number lookup:

Apparently, the mismatched slide on my serial number batch is known. I was told by the representative that for this batch, some extra p226 slides were leftover from another batch of non-mk25 P226s. Those slides were sent out for engravings (the anchor) and coatings, and assembled as MK25s!

I wonder if this was a Canada batch thing haha.

The representative also said, as long as you have the anchor you are golden.

At least I can rest knowing why. Somebody out there potentially has a mk25 or different model p226 with my frame serial number!

Just checked my MK25 , mismatch on the slide to frame. 1023 xx on the slide, numbers on the frame quite far apart, finally found something about the gun that is annoying.

I'm pretty sure the numbers on the inside of the slide have something to do with production and are not supposed to match the official serial number on the frame. The pistols that I own which have matched frame, slide and barrel always have the serial number on the outside of the slide and barrel where they are clearly visible. I also don't remember Sig advertising the pistols with matching serial numbers.

The only American Sig P226s that I know have matching slide/frame/barrel SNs are LE guns. German guns all have the matching SNs due to law. That being said I'm curious to check my MK25 now. I always thought the numbers inside the slide were production numbers and not SNs.
