New Henry Single Shot rifles

I have been keen on a single shot .44 for ages but after hearing the many issues with the Handi's in .44 I stayed away (and could not find one in .357 Max in Canada or a .357 Mag SB2 for reaming).
I look forward to your opinion on the Henry .44 single shot

I have a Handi in .44 and I've never had an issue of any kind.
Has been a great little rifle.

Good to know, I heard the accuracy was really poor in many of them from over sized bores (like some 1894's). Maybe internet exaggeration? One in .357 max or .44 would be great.

Were they SB2 frames that you reamed to .357 Max?

I fit the barrels from the standard SB1 frames to SB2 frames for the Maximums and also for the .445 Super Mags... although with .30/30's and .44 Mags factory fit on SB1's, I am sure the Maximum fell well within the factory tolerances.

I am looking forward to putting this new Henry Brass Break-action .44 through its paces... I have a nice little gloss Leupold waiting for its arrival.

I don't agree... even at $619 CDN, they are a good option as a cast potatoe thumper... I have a brass .44 Mag on order... will assess before deciding on the .45/70.

Maybe your right. Time will tell. H&R packed it in and they were a downright bargain.

Sadly I was never interested in single shots until now so options for me are quite limited.

I have a Cooey 840 on the way with a spare barrel. It's too bad they never did pistol/rifle calibers.

The entry level bolt actions killed the handi rifle. They had to price them so low in the Us market, it wasn't feasible to produce them. Even in Canada they were selling as low as $259 in the last years of production. I'd doubt the new Henry offerings will catch on but it's anyone's guess. I plan on checking them out as I would like to have a single. Absolutely no way I would buy a used handi for what people are trying to get for them.

Ruger is doing a run of .44 Mags in the No.1-A for $1800, and these brass Henry break actions go for $620... I have 5000 0.430" hard cast and nothing to run them through... will give it a go and report back on this thread.

Ahhhh, screw it... ordered the .45/70 too... neither are scheduled to ship until July 2017.
