My dad has one he is considering selling. 22 magnum only, excelent condition, except it was drilled and tapped for scope mounting (2 small tapped holes through the top of the back strap. Just curious if anyone can comment on the value? Standard gun with black grips.

Did they even make a .22 mag only version?
Otherwise I'm going with missing cylinder and drilled and tapped as explained in the original post.
In other words not much collectors value regardless of the condition.

did it have a crossbolt safety
maybe a 62 buntline scout
no it would be a new frontier buntline not a G series as they were 7.5 inch barrels, and maybe not a L prefix, that is why the serial number to make sure it is original,
probably a frontier scout with composite or black grips in 22 mag 8884 made, with single cylinder, ceased production in 1968 only 2 assembled in 1969
page 32 of the Wilkerson book as autographed by author in 1994 to me
more than 26000 dual cylinder were produced so maybe the extra cylinder was lost who knows, unless no DC markings on gun, eleven versions of the all blue model were produced in 22 lr with a total of 101613 revolvers
that is why more info is needed and the OP should know this as he has been around,
value new in box could be 2k but in this condition with no info on proper identification a few hundred bucks
in 1967 only 519 in 22 mag were produced,
later got to go eat

If it is marked as is it is a 22 magnum only and came with only 1 cylinder . As for your serial number I think you have an extra digit or maybe your father confused a letter (suffix) for a number....probably F.
It could be 87340F...in this case it would be a 1959.

if he is considering selling he needs to send great pictures to chuck at proline shooters in Calgary and he can give you a pretty good idea on it
unless I personally inspect the gun the window of numbers is too great for me
Gun is rarer than a normal gun but with holes drilled it can almost destroy most of the total value of the gun
not really the answer your looking 4 but it is the truth
and I have sold over a dozen rimfire commemorative revolvers in the last 18 months
probably more than anyone in Canada

they are not a site sponsor so I am uncomfortable but proline is a gun store so it would not be chuck buying them it is normally a gun store with consignment privileges and I would assume it might be the case there
