I was at "surplus Rifle forum. com " looking up info on jungle carbines on their sight, and it had a place to click & check serial numbers,....I clicked it and BAM ! This voice came over my speakers saying I was highjacked and then gave me a phone number to call and have my computer released. It was Locked up tight.! I am running mcafee but that did help. DONT GO THERE !! I had to call my tech buddy over to do his magic and get my computer back, "4 hours later".
Hope this helps some one.

Next time hold down your on/off button to force close your computer and close that screen. Run Antivirus and adware when you turn it on again.
Had that happen to me and control/alt /delete was no use. Was a trojan to make you believe you had to call that number and pay. "Ransom Ware"
"Superantispyware" (Free) finds and deletes most of them.

Click on little window when it shows up and follow instructions.

Closing the computer and opening again will allow whatever virus you just received to install itself upon start up don't do that

I have Norton on all my devices and all it does is warn you if your about to enter a malicious site, the rest is up to you. You've been warnd, if you still want to test faith, then that's on you. Gotta say though I haven't had a problem since buying a Norton subscription in over 10 years.
Those free virus scans are often agents for virus and malicious software. So your taking a chance with some of that free stuff, some, not all, but good luck getting a good one.
It used to be Norton 360 bit now it's Norton security Supreme or Premium, something like that, but it's worth the money.

I said that all the Norton security software does is warn you if a site is malicious, It does much, much more than that, but it will stop you and warn you if you try to enter a bad site, but it won't stop you if you decide to ignore the warning. I should have made clear that, It protects you in many other ways.

Superantispyware has been good to me for quite a few years, over 7, and has saved my butt a few times a year. Upgraded to professional and by Clicking onto "Unwanted Programs. helps get rid of most fecal matter.

Lone Ranger, which operating system are you using?

I have had a laptop for about 8 years and it's now hooked up to my tv and is used to stream videos and tv shows. It has no virus protection. I believe it's the "mr burns" syndrome at work. All the viruses work in perfect harmony

If you are getting hijacked you probably download a lot, say no more squire, and have several external usb hard drives. A weekly overnight disk image (Macrium free for windows) will allow you to get you computer back when (not if) your c: drive dies or you run out of luck on dodgy websites.
Be careful out there!

Run AVG. It's free and does the job.

I would agree for simple virus activity, but sometimes these hacks were more then just infecting their members computers with malware, but also stealing personal information such as UserID's and Passwords, which is what happened to Gunboards last year when they sold out to VerticalScope Inc. (Toronto).

As ZDnet reported .... Hacker steals 45 million accounts from hundreds of car, tech, sports forums The company that runs the forums admitted failings, but underplayed the hack.

Gunboards Hacked (click here)https://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=57022&p=366807&viewfull=1#post366807

I hope everyone who frequents there, has changed their password.

Doug

Uninstall every other anti virus program, install Malwarebytes. I suggest paying for it, it is an excellent little programs. For an actual antivirus, if you feel the need, I suggest Nod32

I run Norton 360 Premier and have no problems.

If a program freezes your computer, just shut it off, wait few minutes and turn it on again.

Turning it off works anytime things go sideways.

I have found that simply logging out freed me.

+1. That's exactly what I did. It happened to me twice on various websites. I just turned off my computer and then checked it with my antivirus software. Nothing was there. No virus. This voice saying that you are highjacked blah, blah, blah... is just pure BS.
