I recently did a package deal and in the end, acquired a visible loader and a 1906. Originally they were to be for my dad but his aging eyes can't see open sights so I bought him a scoped gun. Although these are neat little guns, they aren't really my thing. I wouldn't mind a lever 22 but that's another story.
Anyhow, trying to figure out what to with them. Hang onto them, sell or trade them? Neither of them is perfect and could be project or parts gun. Both have what looks like original blueing that is (as expected) worn and petina'd.
Visible loader. Action is smooth and working, but the firing pin is worn an appears to have been filed. Therefore, the pin strikes are light and doesn't always go boom on first try. Firing pins are 18$ US plus shipping. There is also a spot on the tang that has been braised. If u have a visible loader manual you can see that to remove the hammer spring, u insert a screwdriver into top tang hole and pry. Obviously it was cracked or broken doing this. But the braise job is actually quite good. Bore looks Shiney and decent rifling under a light. All parts are there and gun seems to work the way it should (aside from firing pin).
1906. This gun needs a few things. A barrel, magazine inner tube and a front sight. The barrel has two issues. 1. The cases bulge in the chamber. It shoots but brass bulges. 2. There is a bulge/ring near the tip. A lot of people say that's fine but combined with bulging cases, I believe new barrel is required. (homestead gun parts has decent used barrels for 129.00us. The magazine tube appears to be from a different model and the feeder piece is a touch short and doesn't quite get the last round where it needs to go. I could build one if I wanted to.
So that said, anyone wanna take a stab at what they might be worth separately or as package deal for trade or sale? Parts or project guns.
