Colt Classic M16A1 Clone

If colt is making it... is it a clone?

If Chevy spooled up and built a 67 camaro in 2017, is it a clone or is it a 2017 build of a legit 1967 style camaro?

Colt isn't making them. US Armament is.

Don't they do the same thing with Colt SAA? Made in Italy but marked Colt so you pay twice as much?

ETA: looks like I'm wrong again. Colt still makes the SAA in the USA.

Sorry to be a pest but any word on an estimated release date? Or is there a site I can check daily so I can leave you guys alone? Thank you.

Here's my XM16E1 I built over a long time.
Took me a long time to track down the right parts. The only sacrilege is the lower which is a DPMS milspec lower.

So the complete upper is an actual Surplus LM marked A1 upper receiver. Barrel and gas block is a take off from an old SP1 Colt. The Butt stock, pistol grip and hand guards are all USGI surplus. The bolt and the entire LPK is from a batch of M16A1 surplus parts kits that Irunguns brought it way back with the FA bolt carrier and selector etc
I even tracked down an old peel washer for the prong FH!

THE hardest part to find was the flat sided delta ring. Very hard to find these days. I got it from the US of A. They have hoards of retro parts down there stuffed in the corners of every gun owners basement lol I'm debating a Nodak Spuds retro lower if they ever come in but it's a big price tag...

It's my pride and joy. Probably my favorite firearm I own. Took me a long time to build her. It is scary accurate with 55gr FMJ's. I use the 25 meter battle zero on it and I can hit plates with the irons out to 300 meters all day long just doing hold over. It's so light and balanced I can literally shoot it with one hand on the pistol grip and still hit my targets with ease standing. It's my favorite configuration. I'll have no other AR now. They just got heavier, more awkward and now borderline ridiculous after that with all the bling and tactical stupidity.
Love me some retro AR. One day I may do a classic Colt 653 carbine build but for now she's my baby!

beautiful build!
i built a m16a1 knockoff using the irunguns m16 parts kit and its great. pretty sure mine was unissued since everything was flawless. i kept the stencilled rack number on the butt too. only non colt bits are the pencil barrel and lower. i picked an armalite lower since i liked the colour match and the logo looks more correct.

dont like tacticool, but love the history, so it was the way to go.

My build with its soviet enemy

Nice!
How does she shoot?
1:12 twist barrel?

I was debating real bad when CanAm had the DA 1:9 twist 20" barrels.
Just didn't seem right having a 'Nam era rifle without the 1:12 Colt barrel though lol

Yeah I had always been wanting to build one as I had no taste for current AR's. Once I saw those parts kit come in from IrunGuns that sealed the deal and the quest was on!

i used the canam 1:9 barrel (i think). seems to shoot great but have only put about 100 through it. works in all temps! i havent had a problem with it.

F**k I should have just bought one and stored in when they were available.
I keep pestering them to get some new ones but everyone wants a 2.3" barrel on their AR's these days. No market I guess sadly...
Would be nice to throw some 62gr FMJ's once in a while. Good thing I stacked the crates of Norc Surplus 55's deep when they were around ;)

I think my total cost for the whole build was still under $1K. It was around $900-ish if I remember correct.
There was not much interest in retro parts back then. People couldn't give the stuff away on the EE. I think I paid $120 for the barrel and gas block. Maybe $100 for the surplus completed upper. I just wish to hell I could shoot it out in the woods but such is life.

We should do a picture M16A1 clone thread.

I was thinking that earlier tonight when I was reading this thread. A classic AR thread with details/tips so shmoes like me can learn more.

I have an LM marked upper with FA and a spare 20" barrel, trying to put together another one. I settled for an Aero lower for now, just because of the price.

Damn.
If I knew back then that these would be back in vogue I would have never butchered my original Colt Commando Upper. Probably worth more original than sliced n diced to take modern accessories.

So where's the A1 clone build thread?

I'm starting a build soon based on the DA556 from Canada Ammo. Secured the hand guards but will definitely need some reference material.
