I recently signed up on the S&W forum, a great source of info,if you like S&W revolvers, past or present.

On the "Ammo" page, there are serious questions re: "the best ammo for a church security detail". Lots of comments and suggestions ranging from the ridiculous to the sublime. Many of the "security" people are ex-LEOs and selected congregation members who are licenced CCW.

I asked why the ammo specifics would be any different in a church as opposed to any other public venue such as a theatre, mall or school. All are going to be filled with panicked, screaming people of all ages and physical conditions.

Since most mass shootings take place in posted "Gun Free" zones, I suggested posting signs stating that members of the congregation are armed and trained and that armed security in parking areas might deter shooters from entering.

Otherwise, wanna-be shooters are going to think things are OK and that they have the edge. This could result in a two way range which ups the chances of "collateral" damage.

Here are some suggestions:

-12 Gauge loaded with little mini crosses
-Brass laser etched with the cross
-Priest blessed ammo (similar to the kosher blessing on all of our food items)
-Silver jacketed (as suggested above)
-Garlic Infused (as suggested above)
-Belt fed with enough links for standard rosary
-.33 caliber? (Jesus' age when killed)
-Lead flat nose bullets with small eye holes to look like a crusader's bucket helmet?
-Bulk ammo wrapped in oily bible paper?

A Taser, Semi handgun with one mag JHP, One mag frangible, one mag ball.

Domestic violence and robbery are 1 and 2 threats. Robbery potentially higher when within a mile of Interstate.

Active shooter potential is anybody's guess at any particular moment in time.

I ran across a thread like this one another Forum. Its amazing how the churches are starting to arm them selves in America. They see them selves as "sitting ducks". I think their smart to do this. Its already happened in a few other churches. Its a prime target for sure.

I'd say they are pretty easy targets...just look at Charleston and Normandy

Really enjoyed some of the tongue-in-cheek responses!

"Gun Free Zone" = "Soft Target", a no-brainer for a mass shooter. It says something about the current state of affairs when the question is even seriously asked. It's only a matter of time before it happens here.

The current weapon of choice seems to be a semi, so the only adequate defence will be an RPG or a .50 BMG.

I guess they have come to the rational conclusion that praying for these lost souls is not resulting in the intended outcome. Perhaps "pray and spray" will work somewhat better.

(horribly tongue in cheek)
