any guru's wanna shed some light for a shooter who knows not much about these old guns? the stock is really nice and its a stainless barrel. but thats all i know :)
its a .303 my father in law picked up for real cheap, and then left it on my rack for 3 years. i havent shot it yet, but was going to take it out hopefully this week if i can find some range time.

I doubt the barrel is "stainless". It looks like the bluing was maybe polished off. There look to be little pits on the barrel, plus you can see the start of a W serial. Are you certain it is still chambered in .303 British?

As said, P14 sporter. Winchester manufacture. The barrel is not stainless, it's just been polished.
It was re-barreled at some point with a 1917 Winchester barrel.
Looks like a nice stock and a professional job.

i trust you guys its not stainless i was guessing :)
it has been shot by my father in law and he shot .303 thats the only reason i know its chambering :)

thanks for your help guys!

It looks like it's a Parker Hale. Hard to tell from the pics. Basically a Mauser 98 action rechambered for various calibers. I doubt its stainless probably chromed for whatever reason. Be careful of the stock, if it is a PH some if not most had issues with brittle dry stocks.

If it's varnished not much you can do. If it's an oil finish I'd put some lindseed oil on it to be safe.

Sure looks like a Mauser action. The bolt release is the same as on my model 96, and the same on the rifle above it in the first picture.

If this has been re-barreled with a 1917 Winchester barrel, would it not be a 30-06??
The P14 Enfield was 303 British. The M17 Enfield was 30-06. Essentially the same rifle, made in the USA in 303 for the Brits and 30-06 for the Americans.
Or am I just being confused by the date of manufacture of the barrel??

i think the op already said its a 303 ,the p14 action is very similar to the mauser ,same type bolt release ,locking lugs ,beefy extractor and so on..The p14 is a #### on close as the mauser 98 is a #### on open.Very strong actions and have been built into many caliber high power hunting rifles over the years, 300 win mag as an example

The Brits were taken to court and actually paid royalties to Mauser for infringement upon their design with the P13. That went to hell once war started.

USA was also sued and had to pay a license fee for the 1903 Springfield. They were then sued for infringement of the patents on the Spitzer bullet.

Yes, I meant the barrel was made in 1917. It has the Commonwealth broad arrow, so most likely .303
