Lusting after calibres / Curse ye Cartridges of the World!

As far as my reloading goes, I've fallen into really mainstream calibres to reload just for economical reasons. I tell my wife it saves money, but we all know it just lets us shoot more. But lately, mostly from going through the wildcat and proprietary sections of my copy of Cartridges of the World, I'm feeling a need to get into some real weird calibre just for the sake of it. No particular niche needs to be filled as I've trimmed my collection so I've got a rifle for whatever I feel like doing that day (plinking, hunting, camping, being tacticool at the range). I just feel like there's some dinking around to be done.

So just posing the question: Anyone else have this impulse, buying a gun just because you want to try out a new calibre? If so, what calibre is in the back of your mind for you to try?

You think thats bad wait til you start buying dies or brass because "it would be fun to have one some day" then a month later your justifying a new build "because i have dies" so to answer your question yes it is completely normal.

I have about sixty sets of dies and I don't have dies for every caliber I own. If you can afford to adventure into a new caliber go for it and have fun. We only live once and just remember its only money you can always make more.

Lol I have bought reloading dies, brass before I have a gun to use for them, a few years ago I was cleaning up my reloading room,
Found some dies I didn't remember having check my guns, yup no gun had to go looking for one Lol
I have stuff to reload 38-56 still looking for a 1886 in that Caliber, Lol
That cartridges of the world book can sure get ya thinkin about new calibers though Lol

Below just a little lusting for one caliber and two die sets are missing a Lyman and Lee FL set. And the standard Lee full length die will reduce the case diameter 'more' than any of my small
base dies. So remember dies and chambers all vary in diameter and length, and I have 2 AR15 rifles and a .223 bolt action Savage and all three have different throat lengths.

Bought 7x57 and 257 robert dies last month or so. Just loaded some 7mm to shoot next friday and my 257 roberts should show up next thursday. Its a sickness i tells ya. I also have some 10mm dies as well... Uhoh. :)

Yah, I have over thirty die sets, but since some of them reload for more than one caliber, (9mm luger dies also reload 9mm Steyr, 9mm Browning Long), I'm not sure how many different chamberings I actually load for.

I got a hankering for something a little rare. Next thing I knew, a Ruger #1 in 9.3x74 was in the mail heading my way. Then I got looking at the other 9.3 chamberings. It's almost a good thing that oil prices took a hit, because I don't have space for the rabbit hole that was about to send me down.

For some reason I have dies for 25, 30, 32, and 35 Remington, 41 Magnum, and 280 Ross. None of which I have or have ever had.

Oh believe me you have no idea..............then there is the wildcats...........then there is completely new calibers like .234..........

Here's my die shelf..........

I have potato salad pails and rcbs dies in my reloading area also! That is where the similarities end for me though... Nice set up.

I HAVE to load for every gun I have, I don't want to be stuck without ammo ever.
Pretty much every gun I own have never seen a factory round down the pipe.
