why no love for the .375 whelen?????
The small case .375 got its chance with the 400/375, before they got it right with the H&H.
why no love for the .375 whelen?????
I have a 375/06 Imp., thats got to be close to or more than a 375 Whelen.
Its got lots of snap, like it.
I sure like my .375 H&H Magnum Sako 85 Kodiak. Has a handy and well-balanced feel with the 21-1/4" barrel. Being stainless/laminate I have no concerns hunting in the weather with it.
I have a Zastava LKM70 Full Stock Carbine that was a .375 H&H Magnum but I got it converted to .416 Remington Magnum. It's also a good rifle and has a CRF Mauser action. I also have a CZ550 but it's a .308.
When my interest in going for a 375 was first tweeked, I went with a model 70 Winchester Super Express, in 375H&H
Then, primarily after reading some info by P.O.Ackley, another variation of the calibre increased the interest to the point where I jumped at the opportunity to acquire another. The lower one, a custom job, based on the Remington 700 action and chambered in 375 Chatfield Taylor.
If you like Ruger you could go with their .375. I have an Alaskan Hawkeye in the upsized version of their .375 which is the .416 Ruger. No issues with hunting in the weather with this rifle.
Thank you for posting. Looks like the Ruger also has many qualities I'm looking for. Stainless is a must for me for spending up to a week at a time in the bush. I'm still not sure about plastic stocks though. Or is it composite? This is what's turning me off the Sako Stainless Synthetic.
Thank you to everyone who posted! Looks like I'm leaning towards the Sako 85 Kodiak in .375 H&H. Many desirables for me, SS action and barrel, detachable mag, well balanced and laminate stock. I guess I could see if I can get used to the iron sights before scoping it. My ideal rifle would have had a composite stock and slightly longer barrel, but at that price I'm not looking to upgrade anything out of the box.
I'm still open to rifles and optics suggestions, but let's put the .375 debate behind us.
Thank you for that! I'm definitely a fan of the Kodiak. Is that a Leupold Ultra Light for a scope? How do you like it. I'm currently using a Leupold VX3i 3.5-10 for hunting, but was thinking a 2-8 type scope would be better. Any thoughts? Also, what do you think of the sling mount attached to the barrel? Any possible effect on accuracy?
Of course, just as I'm settling my mind on the Sako 85 Kodiak, I learn of the existence of the Sako 85 Grey Wolf. Oddly enough, it's not listed on the Sako website, last year's production run maybe? Some sites mention the Grey Wolf is the same as the Synthetic Stainless but with an upgraded laminated stock. Does anyone have experience with it?
I have a Kimber Talkeetna which I feel is superior to the Kodiak in all respects....Very nice rifle.
When I was looking at big bores the cz 550 seemed to handle like a rail road tye...
