Best place to get .303 Brass

Higginsons has Herters (Swede made) for $21.50/50. It's really good brass, but old stock and can use a good tumble to shine it up.

The best modern .303 cases are Prvi Partizan, they have thicker rims, the cases are .010 thicker in the base and are a larger base diamter.

Below both cases were fired in the same No.4 Enfield and the Prvi case shows how well it is made and its heavy duty construction.

Casing on the right is what is refered to as "case separation" right ?

The HXP case is very good brass for reloading, what you are seeing is how much smaller in diameter the HXP case is at its base. And how it expanded outward to meet the chamber walls. Meaning it is not the start of a case head separation and simply fire formed to the chamber. And the best of the old surplus cases to reload.

To be truthful when properly fire formed the Greek HXP cases are very good cases and very long lived, and many say better than Greek HXP cases.

Bottom line when I got my first Enfield rifle I was using Winchester brass and it fell apart quickly. I was told by some British and Australian forum members to get some Greek HXP cases. And when the HXP became hard to get the Prvi Partizan cases came along and are made Ford Truck Tough.

So again any case with a small base diameter has to expand more to reach the chamber walls and will look like the HXP case. And this does not mean the case is going to seperate.

Below on the right is a new unfired Winchester .303 case, in the middle is a once fires Winchester case, and on the right is a Winchester case that was reloaded 3 times and started to seperate. As you can see the case started to separate above where the case expanded to meet the chamber walls.

NOTE, The photo below was taken before I started using rubber o-rings to fire form my cases to prevent case stretching. And the o-ring method of fire forming adds greatly to making your cases last much longer. So there are two mistakes below, Winchester brass and not fire forming the cases properly to my chamber.

Here are some measurements for Herters and IVI, I'd like to see the PRVI for comparison. I use PRVI for several cartridges, it's decent stuff, but usually on the lighter side in what I have it in.
IVI was weighed with the primer in so subtract a few grains.

Both were identical rim thickness

Herters was unfired.

One thing about the Herters. In the batches I got, a large percentage did not have the relief cut above the rim. This caused me grief when trying to chamber them in my P-14's and Ross's, as their claw extractors caused the case to bind. I don't own any Herters anymore...

Looks like PRVI has the same issue?

I have 400 pieces of the Herters, recently bought 100 more, all have the groove cut in them fwiw.

Cancelled order on Winchester brass and getting pricing on PRVI....looking at all options as its getting hard to find. Found half decent price from a sponsor of CGN.....looking to buy bulk though
