Brass Catcher for SKS?

That is exactly what I am doing, I have about 100 brass rounds to use for reloading a 150gr SST, something to play with.

For plinking it is steel cased, either military surplus if I have the time for a proper cleaning or non-corrosive at $12/box if I don't have that kind of time.

Probably be best to get a mag wedge or wartac rail to aid in side ejection might help. Never mind I just looked at the link

I will have to take a look at that bag, cheap to experiment with.

I also want to build some bracket to attach to the bayonet lug, I don't want to modify the gun at all but I want to be able to put a short section of rail on the bayonet lug so add a light, we had a bunch of coyotes right outside again last night, getting more bold and getting closer to the animals, tactical lighting would be nice.

I don't know if I will need a catcher for sighting in for hunting.

I shot it out back today, the brass did go flying but it went up so high you could shoot then wait and see it hit the ground to mark the spot.

I was curious when people said it chewed up brass, I see maybe a mark on the case and a small mark on the rim, not chewing it up but not as easy on the brass as a bolt gun.

Geco 125gr FMJ and 150gr SP both shot great, no problems cycling, no run away gun, felt good to shoot, primers all looked good.

A happy shooter today in the cold, looking forward to being able to actually take it to the range.

Have you considered just removing the piston and or gas tube from the rifle to make it single shot only or do you require rapid follow up shots?

That option is free and only takes seconds.

I did, I figure this will change POI, maybe worth testing to see where it hits with the piston in then pull the piston for any other shooting with the brass cases.

I have a spam can of corrosive, that is my main ammo for it but the 150gr SP, knowing where it hits, or reloading a heavy SP bullet will be nice as I can use this SKS as a quick grab for livestock protection, better than a bolt gun if I have coyotes or bears trying to get into my chickens.

I have one of these and it seems to work well and I find it goes on and off fairly easily, it is more expensive than the bag type though.

Any issue with using the sights with it installed?

It has been a while since I have used the SKS but I don't remember any issues, the plastic is about 1/8" thick and when installed it might be a bit higher but not much.
I also purchased one for my M1 Garand and 1911 and I find all seem to work well.

Might consider this one. Haven't tried it yet on an SKS, but rear sight should be visible - just barely. Supposed to fit any autoloading side ejection rifle. Available from Amazon.ca -
