New shooter looking for a Varmint gun

Really digging yourself a hole here...the 40vmax at 4100fps which is as fast as you could push one with a 22-250 with a 24-26" barrel would still drop 16-17"

22-250's good but it isn't the cure for gravity.

DOPE means Data Observed from Previous Engagements. It's the bullet drop calculation and how your bullet is gonna shift in the wind. That's why we say: I'm gonna calculate my DOPE. All the measurements you need to know to adjust for windage and elevation.

I'll double check just for fun and will post a target with all the measurements on this thread next spring. I was aiming 3 in over on that crow's center body at 400 and I blew it's ass off. I was impressed with that hold over.

You can sling that 40 gr vmax faster than 4100 fps.
I'd try and find a bdl sporter in 22 250, .243 or 6mm and have at here. You'll talk yourself out if 400 yard long shots. 300 is reasonable and perfect with a 200 yard zero.

Who said that 400 was a long shot... I said it was my longest shot on a critter.........
