Evening gang, doing some looking around at the various options out there for quality Shooting glasses for sporting clays, trap and Skeet. Looking at Pilla and Randolph Engineering. Curious about your experience with these and are they worth the money.

I'm currently using a pair of Oakley with a vermilion colour lens which are fine. I'm a reasonably frequent shooter out every other weekend typically.

I've always used Randolphs, they've been good to me. I have a very good condition set of Ranger Falcons for sale. If you are interested PM me.

The hardest part is finding them in Canada...

I am tempted to try some L&M All Americans until I know what I really want..

Remember to buy Poly Carbonate or better. Lots of shooting glasses are not actually safety glasses.

I used to use Randolph Rangers XLW. Thought they were good until I tried the All American by L&M Lenses. Excellent product with very clear lenses. I found I could see the target better with the All American lenses. Have 5 colours for different lighting conditions. Would highly recommend the All American glasses.

The wife and I are both useing pillas and couldn't be happier. They are light and you forget your wearing them. The lens are nothing short of HD for your eyes. They are more costly but what's good to have the best fitting gun best shell if you can't pick up the target well. For sporting with Pilla we can pick up the target split secs faster then without.

That's our feelings on them

Justin

I was shooting last week with someone who couldn't see a target. I said, just watch it come off the machine, it's right there. I took off my Pilla's and guess what. I couldn't see it either.

I think that my Pillas are worth the money. I was going to offer to let you try them, but I keep turning around and looking behind me and there is no one there ... so you must be invisible. Try some to see if you think they are worth the money to you or not.

LOL ;-)

Actually i I am in southwestern Ontario as well, I shoot at Twin City primarily. Occasionally out to Galt for sporting clays. Where did you get your Pillas from? I'm looking at pillasport.ca currently.

Brian is a fine fellow. I got mine in the US a couple of years ago. Mine have no prescription, so if you want to try them, let me know and we can probably meet at a club close to one of us as I am in Woodstock.

Good thread guys.

This year I've been looking to possibly update my eyewear for shotgun. I knew the Pillas were good. A couple in our club swear by them. I'll compare to the others listed here and try to make a decision.

Thanks.

Currently I shoot with just a pair of cheaper shooting glasses with orange lenses and they seem to help somewhat. I tried some $300 glasses (don't remember the brand) and couldn't really tell a huge difference so I didn't think they'd be worth the extra cash. I do see that Oakley has recently come out with some shooting glasses with their PRIZM lens technology. They even have a clays lens that I would like to try and see how it works.

If anyone is at SHOT right now, It would be great if they could swing by and check Oakley's stuff out.

The Prizm stuff has been out for a long while. I know a few people that use them. I've tried them, but not overly sold on the price. ($300 + lenses)

I have been using Decot's Hy-Wyd Internationals for the past 18 odd years. The wife favours Randolph Rangers, although I can find little difference between the two.
The last round of prescriptions for her I went through Morgan Optical in Olean NY ... by phone & email. If you call, ask to speak with Wayne Morgan. For prescriptions, all it takes is your Optometrists "prescription". Talk to Wayne first then all it takes is your "scrip" if you need one, then your credit card. Turnaround time is unbelievably fast. Delivery usually within a week or ten days.

I've found Ranger's Orange, Dark Orange, Dark Purple and Ranger Bronze (or Decot's equivalents) will cover 90% of your requirements. Personally, I use the Dark Orange tint more than any other.

Try Google www. morganoptical.net or 1-800 594-0175.

Decot Hy-wyds are what I use. My lenses are medium vermilion and light target orange. These tints were picked after playing with a colour wheel at the Grand several years ago. They are probably due for a change after my next trip to the optometrist. I'm a bit attached to them after taking a target chunk in the face a few years ago. Without them I'd most likely be blind in my left eye. All I was left with was a few cuts and a shiner.

I have no less than 9 lens shades for my Decot's. I use both their Light & Medium Target Oranges most of the time, depending on how bright it is, but usually on somewhat overcast or cloudy days. On bright, sunny days, the Royal Bud's ( a non-catalogued custom colour gets the nod on some days, Target Sun Medium Purple on others. Pink Blaze works for me on some days, and at the few ranges that throw lime green targets (very popular in the south-west, AZ, NV, NM & CA ) Blue Ice works very well, and here as well ... on some days and in some light conditions.

My next purchase from them will be either Grey 80 or Grey 100 polarized lenses ... for very, very, bright days and fishing and hunting over snow.

9 tints? Wow. That would confuse me not knowing which colour to choose or wondering mid-round whether I should change them. I use the vemillion for sunny days and in the winter. Target orange on cloudy days or when hunting.
