The 760/7600 Club

A question to the guys running carbine length rifles in 30-06. What is the longest range you would shoot out to knock down mule bucks? and what bullet weights are being used with success? Some of my hunting is from 50 yds out to at least 300 yds.
 
I would usde the carbine at just about any range you would shoot the rifle. I was wondering the same thing at one point and chronied the same 180 grain interbond handload and found the carbine ran less than 100 fps behind its longer barrelled sibling.
 
Awesome, good to know thanks. I like the shorter rifle in the carbine length but didn't want to give up a huge amount of performance.

Just picked up another 7600. (Couldn't help myself) A synthetic carbine in 30-06. Ditched the see through rings and cheap scope and put a Williams peep sight on it. Took off the high combed butt stock and replaced it with a Ramline so I can see the sights. Now just have to get to the range and see how it shoots. Cheers Bac4

I would love to be able to hunt with irons more, but the old peepers just ain't getting any better. A low power scope is just the ticket for the time being.

I picked up a sportsman 76 in 30-06 at a gun auction this past spring. Looks great but have not tried it yet.
Scared to bring it out.......my kids keep trying to take possession of my pump guns...... Rotten brats

Couldn't agree more. I have the carbine version 7600 and 7400 in 39-06 and use 180gr rounds. Previously had these 2 guns in regular length and sold them.

My 7400 carbine has the engraved wildlife scene on both sides of the receiver and is a beauty. I've been looking for a 7600 carbine with the engraving to match but no luck so far. Maybe then didn't engrave the 7600
 
Thought I should mention that the Remington 1100 20 gauge synthetic buttstock fits the 7600. This is really nice if you don't like the high comb on the factory stock.
 
I came across a 760 in caliber .300 savage and thinking of buying. I already own a 1975 760 in .308 with 22" barrel. Told myself to only look for only a .280 factory carbine or .308 factory carbine but this .300 savage caliber has me interested. It has the original magazine and aluminum butt plate.

Should I hold out or pick it up?

Hold out, the 760 300 savage pops up for sale pretty often but the 280 is a different story.
 
I hear ya. But its fun to try to get them all. Then you look in the safe and says to your self, WTF am I gonna do with all these. LOL

I have let some beauties go and have regretted it every time.

If my memory serves me right, I got my very nice 7600 Carbine from you awhile back, didn't I ?
