Yugo M48 Review

This is an M48BO I picked up a bunch of years ago. It was new and unfired/unissued. Some parts are really hard to find such as the bayonet frog and the cleaning kit. To this day I'm not sure if there was an original issued cleaning kit? The straps are really hard ot find, when I found some I bought them all. I'm told that the ammo pouches came in both 2 or 3 pocket sets but no confirmation on that either.

It shoots well with good brass such as PVRI or S&B. For loaders you can order some top quality Norma brass as well. I have a 5 gallon pail of old surplus ammo that shoots dirtier than all f**k, but it does go boom. I'm finding good luck with a 170 grain soft point bullet and there is little recoil in this rifle.

I ordered my bayonet off marstar. It was the cheap "Good" grade. I have no complaints, and I wouldn't anyway at $60. I will say that I also ordered a yugo mauser 3 pocket ammo pouch from them as well. I would not recommend it as the leather resembles cardboard that has been soaked and left in the sun to dry. ie; very stiff and crumbly. Not worth postage to send it back, and their return policy doesn't cover surplus.

Marstar had some Czechoslovakia VZ-24 bayonets and wonder if these are the ones you are talking about for the M48.

I just received my K31 bayonet from Grafs and the USPS Priority shipping was $39 US.
Now I am looking for a K31 magazine follower & spring.

Good to know about the 170gn and the privi/s&b brass. I use s&b brass as that's the result of buying $30 boxes of factory ammo and reloading. I can reload for my M48B for about $17 a box taxes in and get it to 3" groups at 100 yds on a bag. Probably could be better if I wasn't wincing when it goes boom. It may not have much of a kick but a heck of a boom and still makes me wonder how these folks fought a war with these things and came back with any hearing left at all.

Tradeex has pouches and bayonet frogs as well

Frog and a couple of pouches ordered! Thank you for that. I'm thinking that the pouches should be better quality than what I have because Tradeex has a better reputation that Marstar.

Tradeex also have a decent selection of 8mm ammo. I was going to pick up some S&B fmj for $30, but then i saw my shopping cart total. Being unemployed sucks.

WILL WORK FOR 8x57MM!

Thats one way of doing it to get some good brass. Ordering new brass isn't much cheaper but it gives you several hundred cases to start with right off the bat. I also find that the heavier loads are not very accurate to the med loads. 170 or 180 gr does really well and doesn't pressure up your good brass too much.

Did order 200 rounds of S&B 196 gr SPCE from one of our dealer, we will start with that then adjust with reloads... JP.:dancingbanana:

Did the Yugo rifles have their own cleaning kit or was it exactly the same as the K98 cleaning kit the Germans used?

I did the same thing, got a couple boxes of ammo too,, need the bayo and sling, I have two m48 coming from Corwin, so far they are not as advertised but not too bad! Looking forward to shooting the M48!

M98's and their variants get expensive real fast gentlemen. I just bought an original K98 bayonet, cleaning rod and sling for my Norwegian, and let's just say that I'm glad I can "mentally" justify the cost, 'cause my wallet doesn't like me.:)
