Hi there;

To preface, I have a couple Norcs, as yet unmodified but I'm pretty new to the m14 upgrading world.

So with Wolverine bringing in the new parts kits, is there any point getting them to upgrade sections of Norinco rifles or are there size difference in the parts? Like is there much a person can really transfer over to a norc, is there any point in transferring parts or should one just throw their norc receiver into the US kit and scrap the rest?

Just looking for thoughts!

Thanks!

Build the rifle with norc receiver and the rest parts kit from Wolverine, keep the Chinese parts or sell them.
Always good to have spare parts around too (the ones that fit both specs/interchangeable).

As far as I know it's a parts kit only because it's missing the receiver. You could take somebodies shot out Norc M14 and rebuild it with USGI parts.

I'm really wanting this parts kit. But, I saw the price at about 900-1150 (ish).
So the parts kit and norinco rifle all in would be close to 1500+
Does this sound correct?
Does this parts kit contain things that are better than modern production Springfield m14?
I'm guessing better metallurgy on the usgi components.
The price doesn't scare me but if it's kinda the same spec parts I think I'd rather have the full Springfield and be done.

Kinda of in the same boat, was super interested in buying a kit. But the more I've thought about it really doesn't make much sense.

$500 for m305 or $1000 for LRB receiver or similar And $1000 for a used parts kit.

Or $2000 for brand new everything and already assembled for a M1A Springfield.

At this point I'll be on the lookout for a complete norinco parts kit in the EE.

New production Springfield M1A's are very very nice rifles, fit an finish is excellent and quality is excellent, tho there have been know issues with weak extractors breaking but that is an easy fix. M1A's are currently made with cast receivers as opposed to forged for some this is an issue, as well some of the other current made SAI parts are cast as opposed to forged.

It's really all about what you want to do, if you want to build a clone as close to original USGI M14 then these parts kits are a great way to do it, but bear in mind these are used parts, if wanting brand new over old then this may not be for you. While they will work on a Norc receiver some bolts may need to be lapped for proper fit, but if you are wanting the challenge of doing your own build then this kits will be great.

Its all about what makes sense to you.

Not necessarily. Read up on the history of the M14 rifle and some of the contractors had quality control problems. TRW produced some of the best parts because they had more advanced manufacturing and machining than the others. The problem with used parts, does not matter if they are USGI or not, is how used are they? All the commercial M1A makers (SAI, LRB, Fulton, Smith Enterprises) are using newly made parts, and have been doing so for a while, and these are all high quality firearms. I would not buy used USGI M14 parts sight unseen. I am not a gambler, and I am not sure how much effort Wolverine is going to put into classifying their parts kits? I sometimes drive by Virden and hope they have some left next time I am by so I can look at them in person before buying.

I'm thinking with only 200 kits, and guys saying that they are going to buy 2-3 kits each, these won't see the end of the day once they are put up for sale! More likely, a few hours or less.

Considering the following.

In the US right now a USGI parts kit sells for $1000. It does not include a bolt. Used USGI bolts will run $250-$350.

So Wolverine is selling us a kit that is worth $1300 USD. For $1000 Canadian.

Assume the barrel is toast, assume you'll need a new piston. Everything else will still be useable no matter how used it is. What's a new bbl worth? What's a new piston worth? Well under the cost savings! IMHO.

I, for one, wish I had the bankroll to buy all 200 kits myself. Sight unseen, at full retail. I currently have 3 receivers ready for one of these kits and another 6 customers who are waiting cash-in-hand for these to go on sale.

I would be very surprised if there are any kits available with-in 24hrs of these hitting the web site!

There are going to be a few very busy m14 builders soon. Someone will have to import some receivers also.
I have been meaning to build some for a long time and have never got around to it. At least parts don't go bad.

Pricing new receivers, no chance of that happening anytime soon. Standard LRB is $850.USD .Convert to CDN funds+HST+import fees and shipping they would end up more than $1300.CDN. Buy 2 Norcs just for the receivers and you still get a quality forged part.

i'd like to see the Chinese copy the lrb receiver - given that they have no respect for copyrights- i'd like to buy merican but that's just too friggin expensive
