Here’s my dilemma,
I have a CZ 75B New Edition, 9mm, 2 tone stainless with rosewood grips, True Dot tritium sights etc. Great shooter, low rounds and I love the gun. Problem is my eyes. I’m quit near sighted so have difficulty focusing on the front sight and the target. My range is 20 yards.
I recently added a universal picatinny rail conversion and a Bushnell First Strike red dot to my M&P .22 and not only do I love the red dot, but my accuracy bettered by about 70%. Now I want a red dot for shooting 9mm as well.
So here’s my dilemma, do I;
1). Alter the CZ using a CZ custom rear rail, http://czcustom.com/cz75-picatinny-rear-sight.html (red dot will sit very high and look awkward).
2). Alter the CZ by finding a smithy and look into milling the slide for a closer fit. Not sure what that would do to resale value.
3). Sell the CZ as is and buy a Sig P320 RX with factory optic or an M&P C.O.R.E.
Leisure shooting only, no IPSC or competition yet and can only justify having 1 9mm in the safe at a time.
What would you do and why?
TIA!

I just put a red dot on my New Edition. No need to mill the slide. You can buy a mount that fits into the rear dovetail. Works great. I have a Viper on mine. The New Edition is the nicest looking CZ of all the models offered IMHO.

I have the SP01 Shadow and I mounted a Burris FasrvFire III using a mount from CZ that goes into the dovetail. Just drove out the old rear sight and put this one in, easy job.

Get the rear sight mount from CZ Custom that fits into the dovetail. Mount your red dot of choice.

You're right the picatinny sits too high, that's not the one you want.

I'd go for option 3. The New Edition Stainless doesn't seem especially common and seems like a good-looking, well-designed pistol and it'd be a bit of a shame to modify it. I suspect, as you do, that a sight on the add-on rail will be too high. I'm guessing the CZ's slide is too narrow side-to-side to mill and mount a sight on without a base of some sort. Any way you can afford to keep the CZ and go for a dedicated RDS pistol?

Regarding your eyesight—remember that you're not supposed to be able to focus on the front sight and the target at the same time. Just focus on the front sight and be generally aware of the target. What about glasses or contacts? I was -4.5 nearsighted in both eyes (well, until I had artificial lenses put in a couple of weeks ago) and shot well with glasses or contacts.

I don't know about using ANY red dot. I do agree that this is the best option for Elkbooger. But any red dot mounted on the slide needs to be one of the smaller and lighter models. Too much weight will affect the travel of the slide when it cycles. So only the smaller and lighter hand gun style sights are viable.

But other than this little niggle I'm fully on board with the idea of using a slide mounted red dot. Avoids a lot of that whole Marvin the Martian handgun look so typical of a full on competition open class handgun setup.

Agreed. I picked up these little guys off the EE this week to go on a Glock 17 MOS and FNX45 Tactical.

Thanks all, still haven't been able to find the P320 RX in Canada so maybe I'll keep saving up until it arrives.
Although I have a hard time justifying 2 9mm's, I'm going to have a harder time selling or modifying the CZ.
Stupid eyes! (and yes I wear glasses...)

Another option is to get glasses with dominant eye's lens tuned for front sight distance and the other one for distance of about 20m. You can bring slide to your optometrist for lens tuning.
