There will be an IDPA type match/skills and drills shoot at the Camrose Shooting Sports Association indoor range January 22nd.

Black Badge or similar training is not required but some experience helps. If you don't understand all the IDPA rules don't worry they are simpler than they sound and will be explained at the match.

Cost is $20 for Camrose Shooting Sports Association members and $30 for non members.

We are going to try to get someone there to sell Camrose range memberships if people would like to purchase them. I believe they are $120 and allow use of the indoor and outdoor facility as well as a discount on matches.

Spaces are a limited and prepayment or payment arrangement will be required. Email me at roddymaze@hotmail.com if you are interested or have any questions.

Thanks!

Just so everyone knows for this shoot you will need:

-most importantly a firm grasp of firearms safety fundamentals including keeping your finger off the trigger and keeping the muzzle downrange

-a centerfire pistol
-at least three magazines
-a holster (no Serpa/trigger finger release types or cheap nylon holsters will be allowed)
-a quality belt that theads through you pant loops
-a jacket, hoodie, or vest that can conceal your gear
-eye and ear protection

If you don't have all the required equipment let me know and you can probably borrow some.

If you aren't used to moving, reloading, and otherwise manipulating your pistol with your finger off the trigger and the muzzle pointed downrange you should practice.

Roddy, I've shot a couple of the Skills & Drills shoots with you in the past back when Robert was running them. I'm glad to see that someone's kicking things off again. To anybody hemming and hawing, Camrose is just around an hour drive SE from Edmonton. I'd say it's worth the trip. Even the IPSC guys who have shown up have had fun, as it's a different game, different rules, but nothing too serious. It's a chance to send lead down range. Can't make this one, but I'll start to keep an eye here for more in the future.

What's the reasoning behind having a " jacket, hoodie, or vest that can conceal your gear" ?

The sport is based around defensive concealed carry and one of the rules is all equipment must be concealed. All equipment is supposed to be suitable for daily concealed carry so no thigh or race holsters, red dot sights, skeleton holsters, etc.

If a new shooter is having issues with a concealment garment the requirement can be waived. Also if someone does not have all IDPA legal gear that will be okay as long as it is safe. It's just for fun.

IDPA has a few quirky rules like that but don't worry, it is not complicated and makes for a fun sport. Scoring is really simple and all you as a shooter really have to do is be safe and shoot as quickly and accurately as you can.

Ok, I get it. Sounds like a fun day. If the weather cooperates, I'll try to make it out. Thanks for the info.

We are booked up now, I guess I should have mentioned that. I am taking names for a waiting list in case anyone drops out.

There will hopefully be a few more indoors before we head to the outdoor range in the spring. Also I may hold another introduction day if there is interest from shooters who have never shot action pistol. The last one went pretty well.

Intro day was great, get on a list and have fun,

I will never be a world champ but I will die with a smile on my face

Anyone who signed up should have gotten an email with a match description and all the necessary information. If you haven'tease let me know.

See you at the range!

For new shooters not accustomed to using a cover garment I would avoid the "Hoodie". It is not easy to draw from and can present real unsafe problems when holstering. Any long jacket or Hawaiian shirt is far batter and, if it matters, faster to draw.

Play safe and enjoy the experience.

Take Care

It's important that nothing on your cover garment gets near the trigger guard or holster and interferes with holstering.

Some shooters will be starting at low ready and if anyone is having issues with a concealment garment they can go without. What we will do for anyone who has 100% legal IDPA gear is note that on their final score.

If anyone needs help during a stage an SO will be able to coach them. We want everyone to be safe, feel comfortable, and have fun.

Haha, of course. Anyone willing to make the drive is welcome to come out. I wasn't sure if people would want to drive that far for a match.

I may go there to visit friends. I was study at U of A aug campus. I did not have my pal at that time so I did not know there is a range!

Thanks a lot to everyone who came out. I think it went really well and I hope everyone had fun. Thank you to everyone who helped with sweeping brass, scoring, patching, SOing, and clean up.

I will try to schedule another match in the next month or two. I felt this one was a bit long so I may trim a few stages or combine some. If you have any suggestions or comments feel free to message or email me.

Thanks again!

Wished I was closer...(in Ottawa). Would love to sign up for next, especially indoors since it's winter time. My outdoor only club had one this past weekend, a mini 3 stage IDPA match that was a whole lot of fun but although it was warmish....still got cold standing around waiting your turn. Makes you want to patch and walk around more though. LOL
