i was wondering around the internet last night and came across some factory produced short barrel mossberg shotguns. one is a 590 a1 heavy walled 10.25 inch barreled pistol grip ,with a fold down forend. the second one is a 500 based gun with a 7.5 inch barrel with similar grip and forend . to see these guns go to o. f. mossberg and sons American built and American strong . sorry i can not link as i am not very good at navigating the net.

I don't know about you guys, but the 2+1 and 3+1 capacity killed it for me. I don't think I'd buy less than a 14" as you still have 5+1 capacity and Non-Restricted. That's just me though. Those pistol grips are terrible, by the way. That's an immediate throwaway and buy something else.

Not to mention that vertical foregrips tend to twist the action bars out of alignment unless you go out of your way to ensure that you rack precisely forward and back every time.

I agree, mine will be the 14" with raptor grip, one of my 590's came with the pistol grip, can't do it, hurts the wrist like heck, the raptor is supposed to be better on the wrist!

Birdshead style grips are better for shooting from the hip but awkward for shooting from eye level, and vice versa.

PG pretty well makes you shoot from the hip. Not practical in 99% of situations other than putting a smile on your face and hoping you hit something.

You can comfortably shoot from eye level even with heavy loads, as long as your technique and pistol grip are good.

I find powerful DA revolvers, like a .44 mag with bear loads, are far more of a handful to shoot than a PGO shotgun shot from eye level.

your account of the front end twisting is exactly what i have found when shooting a pistol grip shotgun even with a standard forend. i find myself trying to take the recoil off the rear grip by holding the for-end strongly which in some cases tends to lock the for-end up a little.not what you want in a gun that you are depending on.

What's the OAL on these to make them NR?

The 14" barrel and Shockwave grip make it 26.5" overall length.
People have been building this configuration for a while now, on both sides of the border.

But this is the first time Mossberg has been selling them like this straight from the factory.

Never had that happen, what were you shooting?

a remington 870 express. to be clear it was definitely locking up . the same gun with a full stock has no issues and is an entirely different easy running gun . i am sure it is because of the hold i was taking on the forend to lighten the recoil on the grip hand. i have made up a couple of rear grips in the birds head style and they are an improvement over the pistol grip style in the recoil department.

Were you shooting from the hip or a high hold?

Your vertical style pistol grip must have been uncomfortable.

I found that a properly designed one makes a world of difference, even shooting slugs one handed is not a big deal.
