Hello Everyone

I posted this in the milsurp thread, but it may be more appropriate here -

Does anyone have any experience shooting Wartak re-manufactured 9mm, brass cased, copper jacketed, 124g Luger through a P38 or a P08? I've read some mixed reviews....some praise it as a decent low cost bulk ammo, others claim issues with squibs and to stay far away from it. I will be shooting it exclusively through a '44 cyq P38 and a 1913 DWM P08 but I have been unable to find a review from someone who used it through either firearm. I can get a boxes of 200 rounds at a good price, but I do not want to risk injury to myself, my firearms or be stuck with a box of bad ammo.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance,

Brookwood

Never tried it myself..but it hasn't got the best reputation round here...seem to recall on a thread somewhere...lots of problems..

Bought 300, shot half and got squibs, missing primers and OAL was very inconsistant. Performance/accuracy was also garbage.

I have the remaining 150 rounds to someone at my range with full disclosure and he had a similar experience.

Will never buy again as their are better option out there both on price and quality.

I responded in the other thread. Here are my thoughts....

I have no personal experiences with Wartak but there is no shortage of negative reviews about it on the net and even on this forum.

I have a '44 Spreewerk P38 and a '15 DWM P08. I've used S&B 124gr from Tradex (18.95/box ..free shipping if you buy a case) that seemed to work fine in them. I've also used 1,000's of rounds of their Centuare remanufactured stuff both 9mm and .38 in various guns...seems to be very good quality ammo.....I've had zero squibs, misfires or overly hot rounds. Tradex has the Centaure 124gr 9mm for 14.95/box. Once again, free shipping on orders of over 1,000 rounds.

Unless you are planning to shoot 1000's upon 1000's of rounds (and why on earth would you in collectible guns) I can't see risking the Wartak over saving a few bucks a box.

Thanks everyone, much appreciated. I have the opportunity to pick up a brick of 200 rounds for $30 a box. BUT, with the high rate of failures, I'll let it slide and stick with what has proven safe and dependable.

Thanks,

Brookwood

I bought a couple of boxes. The price was right, and for shooting at the indoor range I wasn't too worried about it.
I had about 2% FTF. It's not a lot of failures, and far fewer than my brother's first time reloading, but I just hate ftf situations. That moment you need to remove it from the gun and place the round into the dud container is sketchy at best.

I won't be buying anymore unless the price is closer to $25/100. At that price, I would put up with the negatives.

Be careful shooting ammo that maybe too hot in a P38,especially a cyq which may not be as strong as ac or byf pistols.

Years ago a friend gave me a box of 9mm ammo from the military, maybe it was submachine ammo and I cracked the slide on
my Walther HP (pre-war commercial P38)

So after a long wait I found a replacement slide, now only feed her mild hand loads.

My P08 ,1937 S/42, does not like cast bullets, don't feed well so I only shoot her outdoors with fmj.115 gr.

and a P08 action is a lot stronger than a P38.
