375CT or 416 Taylor

I have a soft spot for the 416 taylor, used a custom one years ago with a 350gr speer@ 2540, and used the 300gr X@2700
the 375 taylor is a good round as well equal to the 375 H&H. Most will say just go with the 375 or 416 ruger, which does make sense in reality ... but since when is this hobby about making sense
go with the 416 taylor, and you get a bigbore that will reach out to 300yds and the recoil is not to bad

I like the 416. I have a 416 Ruger Alaskan Hawkeye and a 416 Remington Magnum Zastava LKM70 Fullstock Carbine, and have downed Moose, Elk, Bighorn Sheep and Deer with these. It's a heavy hitter and a long range slayer of heavy game with the right bullet. Confidence-inspiring to be carrying in Grizzly territory. The downside is that it isn't within the spectrum of popular calibers so getting decent resale value if you decide to sell it could be a challenge.

I am not interested in resale so that has no bearing on my choice. I have an offer for a trade and in that comes another 300wm. I don't need 3 and I like big heavier bullets. I was hoping for short action to do a 458-2" but oh well. I've been interested in both the 375 and 416 since I first read John Taylors book

Between the two choices listed and as I have a 375 H&H and a 458 WM mag, both are Winchester model 70 Super Express.

a while back,I went with a 375 CT. This is how it first appeared,

and, as how it looks now

Seems like alot of people are building Taylors lately... I have a spare 300 or two kicking around aswell. Mabey I will do one too! Already have a 404 Jeffery which is plenty, and a 375 Ruger- A notch down from the H&H King! :)

As I mentioned, I had and still have a 375 H&H. However, after reading some of P.O. Ackleys info on the likes of the 375 Durham Magnum and the 375 Chatfield Taylor, ;) it 'seemed' interest in another 375 was developing. When the opportunity to pick up a 375 CT presented itself, I went for it :d .

Hey BB........be different and go with a 375-300WM. Great cartridge and has quite an edge on the CT, but runs through the same action. 375 bore cartridges are a little better all around for NA game, I like the 416s as well but I'd have to say the 375 beats it out for an all around cartridge.

I went through this same debate years ago and decided the 375 was the way to go.

- The 375 offers is a lot more flexible for use in Canada.
- Proper bullets can be found for deer sized game all the way up to heavy game and are a lot easier on the pocket to boot.
- Recoil is easy in a rifle that doesn't have to weigh a lot.

Totally agree after using the 375 caliber in several chamberings, the H&H, a number of 375 Rugers and also a wildcat 375 / 06 Imp.
And as said recoil is easily handled in all.
However, if health permits I would dearly love to take my 416 Taylor hunting, superbly accurate and despite being a tad heavy it is a comfortable rifle to shoot with either 350 or 400 gr. loads.

Then there is my 404 Jeffery...... decisions, decisions.....

With your knowledge, skills and expertise, how much of an edge would you say there would be say, in velocity?
