Looking for some help picking a new 1911. I have had my eye on the Sig Nightmare Carry to go with my P226, but would like some i put from other 1911 owners on any other good ones to buy.

I read lots of reviews online of various 1911's before purchasing mine. I went with a Kimber Custom II Two-tone. It's definitely not the top of the line model but it certainly is a quality piece. Everything is very tight fitting but it functions flawlessly.

I held Rugers, Sigs, S&W, and Remington's along with the Kimber. Out of the ones I held, the Kimber definitely felt the best at the price point. I'd pick a budget and then try to handle or shoot as many different ones at that price point you can and pick the one you like best.

What is your price range? I see the SIG N Carry is around CAD1500 retail.

Willing to buy used?

You might like the shorter barrel on the SIG226 in 9mm but the Commander/carry length .45 adds extra recoil and less control/accuracy than Government length (IMHO).
Since CCW is not a consideration in Canada then I'd look at a 5"....

As below what are you going to use it for?

Sig is the worst i have ever held. For the price, they are still no better than a sam!
There are alot of quality frames on the market, be diligent and do your research. You'll have it narrowed to 3-5companies that produce top notch for 1500 vs the sig for 1400.

Good luck!
(And don't listen to those kimber guys. They're all out to lunch!):stirthepot2:

I've got 2 Sig 1911s. The frame/slide/barrel quality is fine, but the internal parts are junk. After a total round count < 3000, I was getting hammer follow. The sear/hammer surfaces were worn. As soon as those were swapped out, the pistol was back in action.

I replaced all of the internals on my Sigs with STI parts. STI parts are reasonably priced and durable enough for the average joe. If you are going to compete and shoot 15k+ rounds per year out of your pistol, I'd go with EGW parts. (With the exception of the hammer - I like Doug Koenig - all of my competition gun internals are EGW.)

Went through the same dilemma a few months back, ended up going with a used Ruger SR1911 - hard to beat for an entry level 1911 and some great prices to be had for 'em on the EE.

If I wanted a SIG I'd be going with this:

Otherwise I'd probably look for a used Ruger or a Colt. You can find one in the 6-800 dollar range and have lots of cash leftover for upgrades to any parts you deem shortcomings.

From my experience in buying a SAM from Wolverine Supplies, and in my opinion only, is that SAM are high enough quality to compete with Colt, STI, Kimber, Remington, Ruger and many more for the average target shooter in Canada! It's not that SIG are bad 1911s, but that SAM 1911's are that good. The only thing I see bad about SIG is that SIG profile slide: makes holsters and other gear a pain to make fit.

If you are going into concealed carry due to travel in the USA, specialized shooting, shooting a lot and/or competition shooting I would recommend other options than SAM.

Those STI sure look nice. I guess I have to get out and handle a few first. I just want one for plinking at the range, and possibly for carry in the US. I do prefer the traditional look.

I'll see your sig and raise you....nice pistol bye the way...

And Aniest,
I have a Sam omega 6 .40 ....and it is a very fine pistol...a surprising keeper for sure...
