This is going to go a lot like my 4 tries to get Black Badge certified. But here it goes.

My work schedule as a consultant on drilling rigs keeps my away from home at random intervals, for weeks at a time. It took my 4 tries to actually be home for my Black Badge years ago, and it seems to be the same with trying to get into a shotgun course.

I'm looking for any info on official courses in Calgary, Red Deer, Edmonton, etc. These are hard for me to book because I always get called back to work when the course is on, or so it seems.

But I am also open to paying for fuel or lunch if someone who is more versed than I am in competition handling and reloading 3 gun style.

I'm a member of TSE or I can drive us out to Crown land for some bang time. I'm a pump guy but have recently bought my way into a semi, and there is a bit to learn about reloads and handling. It would be nice to learn a bit first hand other than just youtube.

Any suggestions or interest? Is there an open 3-Gun style "beer league" so to speak, recreational tips and tricks, or just official competitions?

I would suggest CDTSA 3-gun matches. They are a fun outing where the vast majority of competitors are just out having fun, not so much competing.

I want to give my new versa max a workout prior to any three gun matches I attend this year, so will likely be giving my gear a shake out several weeks leading up to a match. I would imagine a lot of guys are in the same boat. It would be good to organize informal 'skills and drills' days leading up to matches so shooters can get familiar with new concepts, gear and (for new shooters) a bit of experience with the format.

I know of no one offering up shotgun specific training for 3-gun in Alberta.

Too far away, but here in Saskatoon we do club get togethers every Wednesday May-Sep and practice 3gun. We mix it up between the three guns, usually only two at a time. Idea is to run drills that resemble mini stages and are good for learning. We run the drills on a timer but don't record the times. Then we have matches on weekends.

I sold a couple pump guns and bought a Versamax from TacOrd. SO I need to run some bang through it. I'd like to try and make matches but that was the end of me in IPSC too, always gone to work when match would pop up, and unfortunately geology in Alberta has been "take what you can get" for me since 2009. Its been busy, but I've been to scared to take time for things that weren't family vacations or urgent. I'll totally be into a skills and drill s night or repeated nights. That's exactly what I'm looking for. Something that I don't leave anyone hanging if I get called out.

Where other than CDTSA can I practice? The indoor range bays at the other Calgary ranges don't allow a lot of movement with long guns. I'd love to be a member but I don't foresee any new memberships being allowed any time soon, and when they are I miss the "in the loop" deadlines. HAHA! For shotgun I can use crown land, but with an AR and pistol options are limited.

I lived half my life in Saskatoon and have lots of friends a relatives there. It's not hard for me to give the wife an excuse to go. If I do, I'll message you and try and jump in on a session.

Yeah sure, that would be good. I suppose the out of province travel might be a problem with your ATT and restricteds. But shotgun at least is no problem. Maybe just bring your gear minus AR and pistol and we can lend you some here? Or see about a upgraded LTATT.

Shouldn't be a problem, as I keep 2 Saskatchewan range memberships where family lives. But I haven't called about traveling to Saskatchewan ranges other than those 2 before. I'll have to check if its a province wide ATT on my license or just those specific ranges. I'm pretty sure I still have dual province with those memberships, but I'll have to double check.

If not, I'll just get STATT if I need them. Its just a phone call.

I occasionally do some practice at cdtsa Shephard with a tube fed scatter gun. Mostly around cycling and loading. (Less on movement as that's not as important in my eyes). If anyone wants to practice with me just let me know. (And bring a lot of ammo)
