Where to buy 600 gr .458 bullets?

I was looking through one of my reloading manuals last night and it showed 600 gr bullets for the .458 winchester magnum. My main interest in my 458 rifle is the kick, so I'd love to try these beasts. I posted a wtb ad in the EE and I did a quick net search as well, both with no luck. Hoping that someone on here might know where these can be found. Thanks

Woodleigh shows some 550's, other than that cast but that would defeat the purpose of pushing them hard to get the "kick".

With the limited case capacity of the 458 wm you may actually lose performance/kick with the heavier bullets.

600 in .458

Go to Marstar check out Frontier game ranger bullets. I had some of these 600 grn. for my Lott. Mother F they just keep on going and going. Way to much penetration for anything I will bump into.Fun though.

Can you post the velocity and energy figures please? I'm not sure I'd want to try 600 grain bullets in my 458 lol

Gr Weight Energy@Muzzle Energy@200yrds Velocity Range

300 4284 2779 2334-2391

350 4680 3238 2261-2307

400 4851 3492 2133-2229

450 5112 3746 2084-2122

500 5228 3902 1983-2043

600 5463 3857 1840-1902

The velocity varies with different powders and charge weights.

No matter how much spacing I try to put in, the values don't want to move to line up with the headers, sorry.

When I punch your velocities and bullet weights into a muzzle energy calculator I don't get near the same figures your getting.

I'm shooting 350gr bullets and they are going a lot faster than 2300fps. Hodgdon website lists 2600fps and they tend to be a little conservative. That load would have 450 ft/lbs more than your 600gr at 1900fps

This info came from a Barnes manual. It could very well be off, but I just copied it as I saw it.

Barnes used to make a 600 gn bullet back before they started the homogenous trend. It had a .060 thick jacket IIRC and it shot quite well in my 450 Ackley, never shot any game with it. Ran out of the original 50 I bought and never tried them again, now they are like the Dodo...........gone.

If 550gr bullets would do, TradeEx has these -

550gr bullets could likely be loaded to about 1900 fps MV in the 458 WM. I load 500gr bullets in my 458 WM at 1900 fps MV and these perform very well on Moose. Excellent penetration.

Check out the ballistics for 550gr bullets at 1900 fps MV -
