I'm sure this has been beat to death but I just recieved a brand new Bartlein .338 barrel ( Thanks Hirsch )
I'm gonna have it chambered in .338 Lapua and curious of what brakes people are using. Heard positives about the APA FB gen2 and the new Insite arms Heathen. Also typically what are guys threading the muzzle on a .338 LM 5/8x24?

I've owned about every muzzle brake under the sun, because I have issues with compulsive shopping for gun parts.
The heathen is what you want, effective recoil reduction without a .338's worth of dirt and gas in your face.

I've been really impressed with the CADEX brake, which I have on my CDX-33. No wash or gas in the face and very effective.

I'm going to try an EMP Shockwave 4 port on my Timberwolf. That oem square "thing" is the fugliest brake I've ever seen. And 5/8x24 sounds correct.

I use the JE Custom tuned muzzle brake which is designed for 338 Lapua Mag Improved. You send the data, bullet weight, powder weight, MV, and weight of the gun. The gunsmith will create it and reduced recoil as much as 60%.

Just shot the Heathen in newly acquired SRS-A1 260Rem. Feels like my 223rem, easy to sight hits.
Looks good, easy index with built in nut.

I have an aftermarket Alberta Tactical break on my Steyr HS 50 cal. It is a nice gill design that turns felt recoil into something like a 30-06 with 180 grain hot loads. the flat upper and lower surface is actually a benefit when dialling in the break with a level and locktite. They are not cheap but I would definitely get them to make me another one for any of my big kickers.

The brakes with a nut that takes a large wrench are a no no. Very easy to tighten them over time of being on and off that threads pull over center and then they lose their square and brakes will not stay tight on the shoulder of the barrel.
